Captain Marvel (2019)

Did you pay any attention to what the people involved with the movie said after the first pictures of the costume came out?

Even if they aren't lying, and they're the least trustworthy people in this situation, it doesn't fix the problem:

Carol Danvers has never worn that costume. Her Captain Marvel costume has never been green, and in the comics will almost certainly never be green unless its a direct reference to this movie. Its bullshit, done by people who don't give a shit about the character. Her costume isn't based off a kree uniform, so it shouldn't be green. In the end, its green for the same reason the movie X-Men have basically worn shitty black leather for the last 18 years: the people in charge are both incompetent and ashamed/don't give a shit about the source material.

It doesn't matter if they pull the real Carol Danvers costume out of there ass at some point, it doesn't change the fact that that green pile of shit isn't acceptable, and shows that the people making the movie don't know anything about what they're doing. The movie is going to be Spider-Man Homecoming levels of shit (meaning as bad as a Snyder DCEU movie, but for different reasons), but at least that movie did a google image search for spider-man before making the fucking costume.

Well, at least you're consistent. Seldom ever right, but consistent.

Oh yeah, because its obvious how much of a ratings powerhouse Agents of SHIELD is. Its not like Season 5 has included series low ratings on a few episodes, or that it would almost certainly have been cancelled before now if it wasn't a Disney owned show on a Disney owned network. :vulcan:

Oh, good point! That would be wonderful.
Even less likely, but it also just occurred to me that theoretically a "Bus" could show up too. Not that I expect the movies to pay any attention, but I'm pretty sure it was said somewhere that those were in heavy use in 90's, until the helicarrier was built.

In the pilot, Coulson tells Ward that they were in heavy rotation during the 90s, before they built the Helicarrier.

One of the things about Marvel comics is that they showed me it was the person behind the mask that was important, not the mask itself. For people that actually read the comics, changing superficial elements is fine so long as they get the truth of the character.

But if all you're into is pretty pictures and fictional chronological fidelity to one interpretation of a character, then, yeah, I guess changing colours on a costume is the end of the world.

And so far, Marvel has done a great job with the characters. I'm not worried (so long as they stay away from the more recent interpretations of her, like in Civil War 2. Ugh, she was written as an awful human being)

I can't even remember her in civil war 1. Marvel wiki says she was pro-registration, but did she even have anything more than a background part?
She has a whole graphic novel's worth of story... Isn't she the leader of the pro-registration avengers at the time?

It's rarely a good idea to judge characters based on their involvement in crossover events. Between multiple writers and editorial edicts, those things are usually a cluster fuck when it comes to characterisation.

I think it's a reasonably safe bet they'll be drawing from her solo books, presumably mostly the DeConnick runs.

Marvel Unlimited is extremely hard to search, so its entirely possible I missed some Carol centric tie-in issue, but the main storyline was almost entirely focused on Stark (on the pro-reg side) regardless of who was officially leading the Avengers. For a major crossover event, it was really only Stark, Cap and Spider-man in focus with the New Warriors, Fake Thor and Giant Man as walking plot devices. No one else really mattered except in legitimizing/delegitimizing Stark's position.

Yeah, Carol was pretty gung-ho for registration in the first Civil War.
She definitely had mixed feelings about the whole thing, particularly as she had to pursue Julia Carpenter. She very much took the position that she was enforcing the law and did her best to persuade people. Certainly, I think she came off better than she did with Civil War II.

She ripped Julia Carpenter's kid out of her hands, and then justified it to herself by saying Julia was in the wrong, so she deserved it. She also lied about Cap not actually being dead to try to capture the unregistered heroes right after the Civil war. As someone who is a big fan of Pre-Civil War Carol Danvers, she was definitely the second most despicable person in the first Marvel Civil War and registration era after Tony Stark (being number 2 because she wasn't responsible for killing goliath or almost killing Spider-Man like Tony was).

That said, she still came off better there then in Civil war II, which had her decidearresting people before they do anything based off a future teller who was proved early on to not be 100% accurate was a great idea. So, she is a nasty, authoritarian nutjob in both Civil Wars, but the second one she's stupider and more directly in charge.

She never really recovered from being Tony's stooge in CW 1 to me, then she got worse in CW 2. Pretty intense character assassination, even for Marvel. Its probably a big reason why she went from a top 5 Marvel hero for me when she was Ms. Marvel to not even top 10 to me when she took Mar-Vells title, because she's basically spent the last 12 years being a gigantic asshole half the time.

Yeah, crossovers just turn characters into plot monkeys.

For the majority of characters it's also going to be written by someone other than the person that usually writes them, so that can also have a pretty big impact on the characterization.

I'm reading that there may be a teaser trailer tomorrow. I find this highly unlikely for many, many reasons, not the least of which is they just started filming the damn thing, and the fact this announcement was made on April Fool's Day.

Nevertheless, there may or may not be a teaser trailer tomorrow.

I used to enjoy April Fool's Day...

Well, atleast this one is totally unbelievable. I fell for the announcement that the Dark Phoenix reshoots are all about tying it into the MCU. Took me 10 minutes before I realized...... :(

A few years back I renamed today "don't bother reading anything on the internet day".
