Captain Kirk heading to space.. for real!

My "evidence" is I've been to conventions and got a photo with him, I spoke to others in the line and heard about their previous experiences with him before. I've read Doohan's biography, other coworkers, I've heard Shatner himself (online)., Maybe you guys have had different experience where Shatner has had a chat to you in the autograph line or even just said "Hello" as you get a photograph. LOL.
I'm not saying Shatner is a bad person. I'm not someone he has personally wronged. And the worst I heard said of him was that he was basically rude. Not that he ruined anyone's career or anything like that. I reckon, Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher probably have the same feeling about their fans and their stupid questions that Shatner does but are just too polite to say so.
You know Takei and Doohan may have just been "day players" but deserved respect as human beings. Saying that - Takei could just let it go after 40 years. Thats why I'm suspecting the "feud" is just something made up to create interest by both of them.

Co-stars tell-all books are probably the least reliable. The authors had an axe to grind and it comes off as whining from minor league actors who didn't escape typecasting and had their egos inflated by fans at conventions over the decades. Besides, books saying how awesomely everyone got along for 500 pages won't sell as many copies.

Personal experience is a little better, but fans do tend to be bothersome, even at events specifically made to give us an audience with the stars. Some of the stuff coming out of people's mouths is just incredible. But okay, they are at a table to meet the folks who watch them all the time and helped make them famous. Everyone has a bad day. Of the actors I've met, here are three who I have had bad experiences with:

Robert Vaughn
Herb Jefferson Jr.
Lou Ferrigno

They all have great reputations for be cool to talk to. But at the moment I reached them, something was bothering them and I walked out with a bad memory. Maybe they were tired, or the convention organizers pissed them off or maybe they just ate bad tuna for lunch. Whatever. I doubt highly any of them thought I. or any of the fans. were "scum."

Every person I know who has met Shatner recently, especially at the Ticonderoga events, relates a hugely positive experience. If he thought fans were "scum" and hated Star Trek or something, he wouldn't be showing up repeatedly on a recreation of the sets to meet people. He certainly doesn't need the money or the gig.

I’ve met him 3 times and every time he has been gracious and engaging to myself, my wife, and friends who came to events with us.

Now Brent Spiner has ruffled some feathers and left bad tastes in mouths of fans by acting haughty and smug at some appearances. I adore Spiner but the man doesn't pull punches with some of his comments and I can see him offending certain fans.

I don't know his mind any more than his finances, but this is how I see him. I think Shatner and Nimoy in particular went through similar psychological journeys with their characters. At first frustrated and rebelling against it, then embracing it all, and those opinions color their fan reactions at different points in their lives.

They want to be a "good" actors at first - known by other people in the business as the kind of person who can inhabit any role and do it convincingly, so when a role like Kirk or Spock comes along that both gives them fame and limits their creative choices in what's offered them, they can understandably feel slighted to a degree by the industry and desperate to prove they are not just that character. Later in life, when they are no longer trying to make their career and start thinking about what they leave behind, they accept and become appreciative of the fact that they will be remembered - that they have in fact left a legacy that will far outlive them.

I'm also not surprised to hear him talk about this Blue Origin experience in life/death terms. For over a decade now, death seems to be psychologically driving him to do as much as he can as fast as he can - almost like he's in a footrace against it. Whenever the subject of "how can you have so much energy at your age..?" comes up in an interview, some flavor of this is his answer. I think this perspective sort of dovetails with his view of Kirk, Star Trek, and his legacy today vs. decades ago. It all plays a factor in how they treat fans - both then and now.

William Shatner has made no secret about the fact that he's honestly afraid of dying. He's also very cognizant of the fact that he's 90 years old and that he doesn't have a lot of time left in this world. So yeah the fact that he's a little preoccupied with looking at things in terms of literal life and death at this point in his life is hardly surprising.

For someone who's claimed to be nonproficient with tech, Shatner was one of the first stars to take part in online conventions when the pandemic hit (I attended one). He didn't need to do that. Also, I suspect he's not as clumsy with tech as he lets on given how much social media he uses, and as mentioned I doubt he needs the cash at his age.

An arrest warrant has been issued for Star Trek actor William Shatner, who is reported to have stolen the Blue Origin rocket he launched in today.
....

Shatner and his crew – reported to comprise Nichelle Nichols, George Takei and Walter Koenig – are understood to believe that Leonard Nimoy will have been reborn on a new, Edenic alien world as suggested in a 1984 documentary.

I'm not worried. It's not like Bezos' wiener-ship can go anywhere...

I will say that I've met the cast and writers for The Expanse and they were all lovely. Except Cas Anvar.

shatner responses to George lol
William Shatner on Twitter: "Don’t hate George. The only time he gets press is when he talks bad about me. He claims 50+ years ago I took away a camera angle that denied him 30 more seconds of prime time TV. ‍♂️ I’m giving it back to him now by letting him spew his hatred for the world to see! Bill the

Everyone has a bad day...
He wasn’t a Hollywood celebrity, but I met NFL Hall of Famer Dick Butkus at a local amusement park. I tried to be polite and make small talk. He just growled at me. I thought he was going to body slam me.

It keeps getting called a fued, but it seems mostly one sided. And if someone keeps badmouthing you publicly year after year after year it’s understandable you’re not going to have warm feelings for them even if you usually don’t retaliate.
What’s the history between them? Why don’t they like each other?

This pretty much nails it. George looks to be pissed that he didn’t feel relevant to Shatner, that maybe he wanted some acknowledgement or approval from Shatner and resents not getting it to his satisfaction. And rather than just accept it he’s driven to run Shatner down at every opportunity.

“Uh, tell me George...what do think about Mr. Shatner’s response to your shenanigans?”
