Captain Braxton

But how do you explain her Talosian action figure?

It's all just set dressing put in by a super nerd, not anything the writers thought of.
Well, she said there weren't any signs or word, but there it sits!:ouch:

It's not like they forgot about it. I was reading the wiki, and it says the writers discussed how they might reference it, and decided against any overt callbacks as the vast majority of the audience would be confused. Since they travel back to present day, people would have an expectation for the setting to reflect that, and if they mentioned some terrible war, people would assume something's wrong, and that it's a major part of the plot, only to end up as a red herring.

In the Star Trek universe, aliens have been abducting humans for a long time. Alien abduction stories, and sketches have informed media, and old sci if movies have featured aliens resembling the Talosians, of which Rain is a fan, and keeps the toy on her desk.

Edit: When I was watching the beginning of part 1 for the screenshots, there's a great line. Tuvok looks over all the strange people on Venice Beach, and dryly says "We could have worn our Starfleet uniforms. I doubt anyone would have noticed."

And there's another funny incident I didn't know about. The four are following bum captain Braxton, and Janeway's communicator beeps. Two guys walking both reach in their pockets and look at their phones, then a third guy from the other way puts his phone to his ear saying "hello? hello?"

I genuinely thought the writers deliberately ignored the Eugneics Wars and what we got was entirely the worlk of the art department. Guess I was wrong:shrug:

I guess the Talosian is generic enough to pass as any old sci-fi alien...
