CAPTAIN AMERICA-shooting July 2010:Casting, Rumors, Pics till release

Re: CAPTAIN AMERICA-shooting July 2010:Casting, Rumors, Pics till rele

I've already sold Avengers to a non-super-hero fan friend who liked the IM movies by essentially calling it Iron Man 2 1/2.

Re: CAPTAIN AMERICA-shooting July 2010:Casting, Rumors, Pics till rele

Summer 2011 sees 6 superhero films: Thor, Priest, X-Men:First Class, Green Lantern, Captain America:First Avenger and Cowboys&Aliens
Well, Priest and Cowboys & Aliens are comic book films (although most moviegoers won't know that), but they're not superhero films. Still, four major superhero films in one summer season is a lot, and I agree with you that Thor benefits from its release date while Captain America has a pretty brutal release date, coming late in the summer and sandwiched between Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II and Cowboys & Aliens.

Orange. And it doesn't. As DC seems to agree. They've wisely done a whole lot of backpedaling since that was my sig.

Which is a shame, I much preferred the post-crisis version of DC than what we have now.

When did you start reading? Maybe it's a question of what one grew up with. I grew up in what we now call the Bronze Age, and it is what I favor (though I have much love for pretty much all that came before, too).

When I returned to comics a few years ago I was appalled at what had been done to GL, GA and even Supes, not to mention the fact that Barry was still dead. 3 out of 4 of those have been rectified (to my mind - I know that's a loaded word).

Re: CAPTAIN AMERICA-shooting July 2010:Casting, Rumors, Pics till rele

I grew up reading 70s stuff (is that the Bronze age) that my siblings left lying around. I spent the rest of it reading early 80s stuff and Iron Age (that's the late 80s and all the 90s, right?). I've always been more of a Marvel guy myself so the Iron Age appealed to me more though it was getting pretty out there towards the end.

GA, so they killed him, it happens all the time. Plus his replacements were respectful and worthy. And Ollie was just really annoying.

GL, well yeah I was PO'ed at this and wrongfully took it out on Kyle. But I realized his stories weren't bad and it was hardly his fault that the DC staff did what they did. The current writers were respectful enough to not do anything like that to Kyle when Hal came back.

Barry dying, meh, I always liked Wally more.

So yeah, I do prefer the more "Marvelish" DC verse.

Lots of stuff from Comic Con. First the shield.

And SHH's full report:

http://www.superherohype.com/news/articles/104667-sdcc-the-marvel-studios-panel

There's a lot of interesting things we can learn from this scene, which play an important part not only in the origin of the Red Skull, but also how Captain America may tie in with Thor. The first is the existence of the Cosmic Cube this early in the Marvel Movie Universe and how it plays not only into the origin of the Red Skull, but how it may be connected to Odin (who is presumably the body in that tomb) and the Gods of Asgard. Chances are that this will be one of the few ties between the movies being that much of Captain America will take place in the ‘40s, but it could be setting up something much bigger down the road for The Avengers, maybe not in the first movie but certainly in a future one

Can't wait to see some actual footage.

Re: CAPTAIN AMERICA-shooting July 2010:Casting, Rumors, Pics till rele

Reading that SHH piece was great. I so wish I could've been there to see that.

So, our Avengers are locked into place it seems. Glad to know Black Widow will be in place. Curious to know when Hawkeye will be introduced, I'm guessing in the opening minutes of the Avengers movie or perhaps post credits in Thor or Cap?
The omission of Ant-Man and Wasp was noticable.

Re: CAPTAIN AMERICA-shooting July 2010:Casting, Rumors, Pics till rele

Love the poster, love the costume (the suspenders are still :wtf: but what the hey), and the director seems like he understands the character. Cap was never intended to be a mindless flag-waving type. He knew what he was fighting for.
Was it make the other poor dumb bastards (i.e. Nazis) die for their country? :)

A beaker full of death said:
We may be evaluated here only by our words. I'll not apologize for refusing to stoop to the lowest common denominator. I do not claim intellectual superiority to anyone simply because I am capable (as are many others here) of using the language we've all agreed upon correctly. While I do frequently engage in the vernacular for effect, I'm hardly "putting on airs" when I simply write correctly. I'm hardly whipping out the old Roget's to find le mot juste. I rarely even use words that can't be found in your local newspaper. In an era in which schools are accepting papers written in text-speak, we are far too forgiving of those native English speakers who are unable to use the language correctly.
Insulting the intelligence of anyone caught using the English language informally is massively belmtastic. The only 'evaluating' taking place is by you in your own head which is pretty strange behavior.

I like the look of the shield and during a video interview for EW (you can find it on their site) from Evans, Weaving, and Johnson..Hugo reveals HYDRA exists.

HYDRA, cool! Just another little nugget along with the cosmic cube + the Infinity Gauntlet over in Thor. The Marvel Movie 'verse is really taking shape.

I wonder where A.I.M. will first get a mention? The Punisher reboot 3.0 perhaps?

Maybe Hawkeye will be a newcomer, who provides new viewers entry into the universe? Like Rogue and Logan in the first X-Men movie. Or that young FBI guy in the first Hellboy movie? Or the Scott Speedman character in UNDERWORLD. Or even Will Smith in the first MEN IN BLACK.

You know, the new guy who needs to have everything explained to him.

Re: CAPTAIN AMERICA-shooting July 2010:Casting, Rumors, Pics till rele

Well, in his first appearance Hawkeye was partners with Black Widow to destroy the Avengers.

Maybe he'll be BW's assistant or something as SHIELD liaisons?

I was thinking Caps was gonna be that guy. Kind of like Encino Man, but less caveman-ish. I guess you could say the same for Thor.

What do we have here........

Uploaded with ImageShack.us
It's from a costume test. Johnston said so himself during the panel. the little we see of cap in the teaser they showed us was shot during a costume test. this isn't the final costume.

What do the people behind the Ultimate U have against wings on Cap's cowl?

Re: CAPTAIN AMERICA-shooting July 2010:Casting, Rumors, Pics till rele

Sadly, the folks who run the Ultimate MU are at the mercy of the voices in their heads...

They're really silly looking and serve no function whatsoever.

I like Cap's 616 outfit, for the record, but I'm not surprised they chose to leave the wings off; some things just wouldn't look very good in live action.

So the wings are decorative, not utilitarian. What's wrong with decorative? Superhero costumes aren't always designed for practicality.
