CAPTAIN AMERICA-shooting July 2010:Casting, Rumors, Pics till release

Re: CAPTAIN AMERICA-shooting July 2010:Casting, Rumors, Pics till rele

Captain Awesome for Captain America! :D
Ryan McPartlin (from the series Chuck) would seem to be one of the top rumored candidates for the role.

Yeah, I could totally see him as Captain America. I think my wife would be happy with that casting too.

That would be amazingly great casting. He has ridiculously perfect conventional good looks, is young enough for the role, and is a very talented actor (in both comedy and drama). Done properly, Cap should be one of the most challenging superhero roles for any actor to tackle.

Another possibility that will send the fangirls squeeing: Jared Padalecki. :D He's even younger than McPartlin and has those cornfed looks.

Re: CAPTAIN AMERICA-shooting July 2010:Casting, Rumors, Pics till rele

I still say Jon Ham, I know, I know, too old apparently and I havent seen Ryan McPartlin in anything but Chuck and Mad Men, although I think he and somebody like Ackles would be the lightweights compared to they heavy hitters like RDJ, Ed Norton, Samuel L. and Hemsworth I'm not all that familiar with either, but Caps is essentially fieldleader right?

So I think they'll either cast somebody with a somewhat of a name, acting chops and box office appeal, which I'm starting to think it will turn out to be Sam WorthIngton, although he's freakn everywhere

Man what if they did the unthinkable and cast Josh Hartnett or Ryan Phillippe or Joseph Gordon levitt, Josh duhamel

Re: CAPTAIN AMERICA-shooting July 2010:Casting, Rumors, Pics till rele

I would be okay with Josh Harnett because I think he can actually act and just gets stupid roles.

But I am firmly in the McPartlin camp.

Re: CAPTAIN AMERICA-shooting July 2010:Casting, Rumors, Pics till rele

Don't watch Chuck, so I've ever really realy heard of the guy, but one google search later I'm all for McPartlin.

Re: CAPTAIN AMERICA-shooting July 2010:Casting, Rumors, Pics till rele

I'm surprised to see a few US posters suggesting Aussies (the Hemsworth boys, Worthington) for such an All-American hero. I would have thought you'd all be insistent he be played by a Yank? I don't often think that nationality is that important in casting but I can certainly understand why people would want Captain America played by someone with an American passport.

It's called acting for a reason.

Of course, there's also a major double standard because hellfire would reign upon us if an American were to play a Brit in Harry Potter or James Bond.

I don't know. Nobody complained when Robert Downey Jr. was cast as Sherlock Holmes . . . .

Re: CAPTAIN AMERICA-shooting July 2010:Casting, Rumors, Pics till rele

Where did I say Sherlock Holmes? You even quoted my entire quote. People like to be selectively offended.

Do you not remember when there was actual outrage over the idea that an American (Haley Joel Osment) would possibly play Harry Potter?

And I'm not talking about just these kind of message boards where you'll always find someone who is against something.

Graham Norton did a funny bit about it when Downwy was on his show.

He wasn't offended, he just expanded the parameters by including a third icon British character.

Re: CAPTAIN AMERICA-shooting July 2010:Casting, Rumors, Pics till rele

I always thought that Heath Ledger would have made a good Captain America after seeing him in "The Patriot". Brad Pitt always gets brought up because of his physique and looks. A poster asked about Sam Worthington...I would buy him as Steve. He mentioned as an aside during an interview recently that he knows how to hold a shield so he seems like he would be interested if he was asked.

Have I mentioned that I hate the "First Avenger" sub-title?

Exactly. I wasn't offended. I was just pointing out that Holmes is about as iconically British a character as you can get, and yet audiences seemed to have accepted Downey in the part. So maybe that "double standard" is crumbling . . . .

When Sharon Carter asked him how he dodges bullets, he replied that, "I can see faster", whatever that means.

.
 God lord. He's Captain America, not the Flash,

Actually(!) that's why Babe Ruth was so good at bat. There's a piece in the NYTimes archives from 1921 about studies done on him at Columbia.

Still me, because Babe Ruth can't dodge a bullet.

Nah, he'd just swing away and knock it back at the guy trying to shoot him.

If a Brit is cast as Captain America, I hope he can do a better American accent than Gerard Butler or Colin Farrell.

Well considering one is Irish and the other one is Scottish, them being Brits posing as yanks would be difficult, but semantics. So Daniel Craig as Captain America? Or at least Captain Britain in the next X Men installment

He's Robert Downey Jr. To complain would reveal your total insanity. Still imagine him being proposed for a Harry Potter character. JK Rowling would have shit a brick! :rommie: Or James Bond. (That would be the one case in which I'd actually watch a Bond flick.)

You know, as soon as I used the term "Brit," I knew someone would come along and confuse it with "Englishman." Congratulations on being first!
