CAPTAIN AMERICA-shooting July 2010:Casting, Rumors, Pics till release

Re: CAPTAIN AMERICA-shooting July 2010:Casting, Rumors, Pics till rele

I don't think it's unreasonable for them to want to keep salary costs down. If you look at their other films, it hasn't stopped them from getting top/appropriate talent.

Re: CAPTAIN AMERICA-shooting July 2010:Casting, Rumors, Pics till rele

The 9-film commitment does seem unreasonable. Has any actor in Hollywood history ever played the same character in nine different full-length features?

Re: CAPTAIN AMERICA-shooting July 2010:Casting, Rumors, Pics till rele

Well 9 films can come pretty quick y'know, especially if they do the cameos like they've been planning. So really...

Captain America - 1
Maybe Thor - 2
Avengers - 3
Maybe an Ant/Giant Man movie - 4
Iron Man 3 -5
Hulk 3? - 6
Captain America 2? - 7
Avengers 2 - 8
Something else - 9

And think about it at least 2 of those movies can be the same year, so in 5 years or less you could easily have 9 appearances

Desmond Llewelyn played Q in 17 James Bond films. Bernard Lee played M in 12 James Bond films. Both supporting players, too.

I can't think of anyone else. The next closest characters I can think of are Kirk, Spock, Chekov, and Scotty--played by the original Star Trek actors in seven films each.

Then I suppose nine films is "doable" for the guy who plays Cap. But he'll have to be in shape after he hits 40.

Re: CAPTAIN AMERICA-shooting July 2010:Casting, Rumors, Pics till rele

I doubt they're not talking about nine straight Cap films. They've got some solo movies, some Avengers films, and probably some cameos in other heroes' movies. They signed Samuel L. Jackson to a nine-film deal, and those appear mostly to be supporting parts.

Re: CAPTAIN AMERICA-shooting July 2010:Casting, Rumors, Pics till rele

I assume the biggest part for the actor will be in the Avengers film and of course Captain America.

Re: CAPTAIN AMERICA-shooting July 2010:Casting, Rumors, Pics till rele

A 9-picture deal is not necessarily a bad deal for an actor either. Jobs are hard to come by for actors too. So why not sign for and be guaranteed work?

More than likely the full 9 pictures will never be made anyway, or you will be bought out of the contract.

Basil Rathbone played Sherlock Holmes in fourteen movies. Ditto Nigel Bruce as Dr. Watson.

Christopher Lee played Dracula at least eight times.

Not sure how many times Johnny Weismuller played Tarzan, but I'm guessing it was more than nine.

Plus 9 films will keep him from jumping Marvel's ship too quickly.

I think the key thing is that all of these actors listed who played a role so many times became synonymous with that role. Which is the problem. Marvel is trying to sign name-talent. But for nine films? That's a big commitment for an actor who has a name and wants to be able to take other roles, unless there's a guarantee or two that some of those appearances will only be cameos.

Re: CAPTAIN AMERICA-shooting July 2010:Casting, Rumors, Pics till rele

Have you seen the cast of Thor and Iron Man 2? Name talent clearly isn't a problem; and none of the guys in competition to play Steve Rogers is a "name" comparable to some of the stars of those films.

Re: CAPTAIN AMERICA-shooting July 2010:Casting, Rumors, Pics till rele

^^
Were those actors signed to 9-picture deals, though?

Re: CAPTAIN AMERICA-shooting July 2010:Casting, Rumors, Pics till rele

Scarlett Johansson was and it was reported as being a pretty bad deal.

Re: CAPTAIN AMERICA-shooting July 2010:Casting, Rumors, Pics till rele

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Evans has given an enthusiastic yes.
Chris Evans will play Steve Rogers, also known as Captain America.

Sources tell us the actor has not only accepted Marvel's offer, first detailed on Friday, but that the dealmaking moved so fast it's now all about dotting the i's and crossing the t's.

Marvel would not comment on the development, and CAA, which reps the actor, declined comment.

Evans was offered the role in Marvel Studios' production last week, but there was some question of whether he would accept. Factoring in to the choice was the fact that Evans played Johnny Storm, the flame-covered superhero known as the Human Torch in Fox's "Fantastic Four" movies. Was he ready to play another superhero and take on the trappings that come with such a high-profile part?

Evans took a few days to think it over, and once he decided he was willing to wield the shield, negotiations moved quickly over the weekend.

Re: CAPTAIN AMERICA-shooting July 2010:Casting, Rumors, Pics till rele

Geez, I'm glad that's over with.

I'm cool with Evans as Cap. The character needed to be younger (which made casting a fortysomething out of the question), so they could have done a lot worse.

They could have picked a less goofy-looking stock shot of the guy, though.

Re: CAPTAIN AMERICA-shooting July 2010:Casting, Rumors, Pics till rele

I thought Evans did a great job as The Human Torch. He WAS Johnny Storm. Hope he'll do a good job as Cap. At least he's American.

Back in those days Hollywood used to belt out pictures in a very short amount of time. It wasn't usual for an actor or actress to do four films a year. Nowadays shoots are longer.

Re: CAPTAIN AMERICA-shooting July 2010:Casting, Rumors, Pics till rele

I'll be honest, I thought Mark Valley would have been perfect, but at his age I knew it was out of the question. I can deal with Chris Evans. No complaints from me.

Of course, that practically guarantees that any future Fantastic Four movie will be a recast/reboot.
