Captain America: Civil War - pre-release discussion, news, rumors, etc

Just because they're fighting doesn't mean they are trying to kill each other. We haven't seen anywhere near enough to really decide for sure who is doing what to who, and deserves to die. All we have is the trailers, and trailers don't give us all the details, and are often edited deceptively to make it look like things that are happening are happening differently.

Such as people assuming Robert Redford was talking to Captain America in Winter Solider when he made his "you made this century" speech.

The mask looks just like my Alex Ross Spider-Man bust on my desk. VERY Romita. Love it! (Are the eyes indications of Stark tech?)

Stark helps him with his suit.

Before this Parker apparently wears a homemade costume.

These are the goggles Parker wore for his proto/homemade suit

Yeah the sense I get is they're only really trying to subdue or incapacitate each other (or in the case of Tony, defeat his suit). Obviously there will be moments when things get out of hand, like we see happen to Rhodey, but I'll be very surprised is Cap's side is the only one in the movie that will be responsible for those.

It's neat that they found a way to do a live-action (well, probably CGI) version of the size-changing eye holes in Spidey's mask. It should help give him more expression. Though the narrowing at the end of the trailer shot makes him look more menacing, which clashes with the "Hey, everyone." (Love that line, by the way. Although the part of me that watched The Electric Company as a kid feels it should've been "Hey, you guys!")

And I didn't realize at first that Tony called in Spidey by yelling "Underoos!" I thought he was saying "On the roof!" for some reason.

Yeah, Tony did call him here, but that doesn't necessarily mean he'll side with Tony the whole time.

In the comics, didn't Spidey eventually defect from Iron Man's side and join Cap's?

That was used to good effect in the 1967-69 Spider-Man cartoon, thanks to his mask being so "lifeless" without features.

Funny as that might have been (and nostalgia-heavy for me), it would have been too out of place. I would end up expecting Morgan Freeman to show up as Easy Reader!

And as much as everyone is geeking out over Spider-Man (and rightfully so), there was a lot of cool stuff in that trailer. Wanda vs. Vision, Ant-Man riding Hawkeye's arrow...

Yes, it will be interesting to see a being as powerful as Vision brought to his knees by Wanda. The aftermath is likely the start of their relationship.

I hate that.

The rest of the suit's rather unremarkable in a 'looks like Spider-Man' kind of way. I preferred the previous two...

I hate that.

But full-face masks in live action tend to be too lacking in expression, which is part of the reason movie superheroes are constantly taking their masks off, which is something a lot of people hate. Giving Spidey's mask a feature which will let it convey a semblance of emotion will reduce the pressure to have it come off.

I think the only people at risk of dying in Civil War are Bucky and or Rhodey.

Although I do find it funny that all movies now are addressing the accountability aspect of heroes and the battles they fight.

Superman for Metropolis in MOS.
The Autobots for Chicago in Dark of the Moon.
The Avengers for NYC, DC, and Sokovia. Also London from Thor 2 and that African city Hulk wrecked.
A bit of a throwback but Batman and the murder sprees caused by the Joker in TDK and Bane in TDKRises.

Heroes can't win for losing, I guess.
Except for Godzilla(2014)who is cheered for when he leaves a destroyed city after his fight..

Oh, true, but this is just lacking in subtlety. It's way too obvious, and I don't like the 'eye' design either.

I'd prefer hints of expressions to be applied in post production in a more subliminal way. To all intents and purposes, just a cloth mask, but you would pick up on expressions...

Really good trailer. Some cool stuff, and Spider-Man was interesting. I love the mask, the eyes moving was really cool, and its not something we've seen in live action before. Personally, I think this will be THE superhero movie of the year, at least for me.

Gonna go see it with the wife. But it looks as forgettable as most of the other movies Marvel has put out.

The MCU stuff is becoming rather homogeneous, isn't it?
I prefer the X-Men franchise.

So... I haven't been reading up on this very much, to avoid possible spoilers. Is William Hurt playing General Ross again?

Yeah I agree it doesn't seem all that necessary, and I thought the previous Spidey actors did a perfectly good job conveying emotion through the tone of their voice or their head movements (and even in the comics and cartoons it always struck me as odd how Peter could somehow squint or narrow the eyes of the outer mask).

But if it is indeed something Stark helped out with then it makes sense that he could develop electronics that can read and then mimic the expressions of Peter's own eyes within the mask (and presumably help him magnify or analyze what he sees). And so I guess it makes the idea a bit more plausible.

And if nothing else, it makes this Spidey a bit different from the others.
