Captain America: Civil War - pre-release discussion, news, rumors, etc

He had an uncredited cameo as an "Expo Fan" in Iron Man 2, which barely counts.

Oh yeah, I forgot about that. I had thought he was basically playing himself in that scene, I guess because it's the same place Larry Ellison turns up playing himself.

Purchased my tickets a week ago. Given the seats I ended up with for BvS following a website "issue" with my cinema, took no chances this time.

Hugo - Shame they wouldn't let me in to perform the Sheldon Test though

^ Well, we shouldn't forget that the preview for BvS resulted in a standing ovation and the buzz was very positive before the reviews. But, that said, even as someone who liked it and saw it twice, I've always been more excited for CW than Dawn of Justice.

The Vision in a suit looks so wrong to me :guffaw:

Vision is actually the biggest question for me in this movie. He was a fascinating enigma at the end of AOU and a really arresting character. This is his full appearance... but it can only be a glorified cameo. We'll probably have to wait for IW1 for any real movement.

I saw Civil War at an early screening on Friday in Los Angeles.

I signed an NDA so I can't divulge any spoilers, but in a nutshell: The film is very good. It might be my favorite Marvel Studios film, although right now it is neck and neck with Winter Soldier. This film is a tad overstuffed, so anyone complaining about Dawn of Justice being overstuffed and saying Civil War isn't is lying, and it lacks the clear narrative focus of Winter Soldier but that's honestly not a huge problem by any means. The film is so fun (although a bit darker than the trailers suggest) and the action is so truly spectacular that you forget about any narrative problems the film might have as a result of having so many characters and plotlines.

Spider-Man also steals the show. Ant-Man was probably my second favorite character in this, which was surprising because I'm not the hugest Ant-Man fan, but I did love his standalone movie and he works even better here. Black Panther is the other standout; he's regal, powerful and a complete badass.

I think what Civil War gets right (and what Dawn of Justice got inherently wrong) is that you don't want to see these guys fight. The ending is emotional, intense and a bit of a tear-jerker. You just want them to stop fighting so they can go back to being friends. I never got that feeling from Batman and Superman when they fought in Dawn of Justice, so it absolutely helped that Civil War was working from 8 movies worth of build-up and character interaction. It definitely pays off in the end.

Was that drone supposed to be Redwing?

I think so, yes.

I get the impression from the clip that it's from the beginning of the film. It has the feel of an establishing action sequence to show how the new Avengers team is getting into the groove before things start to go wrong.

And probably also the event where shit meets fan. From what we've gathered sofar, an event in the beginning of the film will trigger the Accords being drafted. Perhaps many civilian casualties?

Wow, how did you land that???

I write for a film blogging website called FirstShowing.Net. It's how I've seen other movies early, like Crimson Peak and Batman v Superman (although I was invited to the critics screening, I opted to go to the fan screening a day earlier instead).
