Whomever created that nicely tapped into not only the MCU's world building, but more importantly its character building.
The vast majority of the MCU films, to me, have been nothing more than fun, frivolous escapism. Not all of the films stories have been good and a few have been downright dull, however, for me, every major character has been a winner. Stark's charisma and arrogance, Cap's heroic stoicism and doggedness, Thor's regal and aloof nature, Lang's charm and drive, Banner's sincerity and inner turmoil, Hawkeye's honour and grounding, Natasha's loyalty... I can see these people as friends, as colleagues, as combatants. So, to watch them tear themselves apart makes a kind of sense to me as the tendrils that hold them all together are so very fragile.
Unlike with BvS, where the friction and the anger seems to have been overtly manufactured, Civil War does appear to be a natural extension of what has come before. Not all of what has come before has been successful, but the building blocks are there, and the investment in those people "in the ring" is there also.
Civil War feels like a winner to me. As both a continuation of Cap and Bucky's story and as a fallout of all these "heroes" and the carnage they bring (and protect from). It makes sense that a fearful "normal" world would want these people controlled. It is hard to separate the heroes from the villains when your city is rubble.
I hope the Russo's can nail this. It is by far the biggest thing that Marvel has attempted yet. The scope is huge. And, yet, also wonderfully intimate, by hanging it around the neck of Bucky and his relationship with Steve, If they can pull this off, then the Infinity War truly does have a chance of succeeding.

Hugo Rune, I agree with some of your ideas, however, it seems the most successful MCU roads were built on Cap's influence on the MCU--much like how his 1960s revival suddenly made pre-existing characters and titles take on a bigger, more political feel, with so many of his original or retconned WWII enemies becoming dramas for the general MU. While characters such as Thanos do not fall into Cap's history of influence, so much of what leads to Civil War is directly connected to his past in one way or another.

This one has a brief glimpse of Hawkeye vs Black Widow. I do hope the battle between Team Cap and Team Iron Man is not an Avengers AoU style joke fest. With the Avengers making bad jokes as they are presumably trying to do as much harm to each other as they possibly can.

That seems like a lot to presume. I'd expect most of them really don't want to have to do what they're doing. (While also looking to whoop some level of ass, granted.)

It's just they don't look like they're playing footsie with each other or giving it a college try fight. They look like they're out to bring pain, but not kill or maim.
Look at the shiner Tony is sporting.
Also the beat down Capt and Bucky give Iron Man.
Again, not saying they're out for blood, but this all looks pretty serious. I just don't want the witty banter that was too prevalent in AoU to undercut the sense of pathos these fights should invoke in the audience.
AoU was directed by Joss Whedon. This movie is directed by the Russo Brothers, who did The Winter Soldier. So TWS is probably the film you should look toward to get a sense of the expected tone.
The new bit between Widow and Hawkeye doesn't look like tacked-on witty banter to me. It looks like a moment that arises organically from the characters, that says something about their emotions in the midst of this. And it's moments like those which will give meaning to the conflict and make it more than just a bunch of stunts and CGI.
They (Hawkeye & BW) seem to be testing the waters with what few seconds either will have in this, but unless one joins the other side, I would believe it unwise to assume their relationship will take a dark turn. The film--the story is all about a schism in the Avengers (and non-affiliated parties), so fence-sitting will not make sense when hard, black and white choices are the only option left.
Okay, watching this again and getting a better look at one scene, is that a MICRO arc-reactor in Tony's wristwatch/guantlet thing?
More to the point, are all the smaller glowing points on the Mark 46 more of those smaller power cells to help power it?
OK, this is interesting. Alfre Woodard, who is playing Mariah Dillard, aka "Black Mariah" on Netflix' "Luke Cage", will apparently also be appearing in "Civil War".
That would make for a strange choice for the first Netflix to big screen crossover character.

Or it could be that she's playing a different character in the movie. We've had several cases in the MCU of one character being played by more than one actor; it figures that eventually we might get one actor playing more than one character.
How long do y'all suppose it will take for this "civil war" to transpire, considering that the "age of Ultron" was roughly only 1 week?
Isn't the length of a war just as unspecified as that of an age? Wars and Ages last as long or little as they need to.
We already have. Matt Gerald, who plays Melvin Potter on Daredevil also played "White Power Dave" in the "All Hail the King" One-shot. He was also cast in Edgar Wright's Ant-Man, but his character was cut after the re-writes that occurred when Wright left the project.
Dozens of others too, including Enver Gjokaj, Tony Curran, Laura Haddock, Seth Green, and Imogen Poynton.
Ahh, that's interesting, though not really surprising when I think about it. So that increases the chances that Woodard is playing a different character in the movie.
He had an uncredited cameo as an "Expo Fan" in Iron Man 2, which barely counts.
And of course let's not forget all the characters Stan Lee has played in the MCU.
Here's the list of all the actors who've played more than one role in the MCU, though that includes background extras and actors who've played more than one character in the same production, like Paul Bettany (JARVIS/Vision) or Patton Oswalt (the Koenig brothers).
I'm convinced that Stan Lee is the Watcher.
