Captain America: Civil War - pre-release discussion, news, rumors, etc

Everybodies got new outfits. Tony's been busy, between the MK.46, Ant-Man's new suit, Spiderdick's weirdly self animate lycra onesie, upgrades to War Machine by the looks of it after Sokovia.

Vision can just mimic anything he wants, flipping through clothing catalogues. Actually I think Natasha is the only one still wearing something from a previous movie with her standard BW outfit, but Hawkeye's wearing something new every movie.

The wardrobe Dept budget alone must have taken a chunk of the funding.

I doubt Tony had anything to do with Ant-Man's new suit, considering how Hank Pym feels about the Stark family.

aka "toys". Being aimed at children isn't necessary for something to be called a toy. Hot Toys makes (surprisingly) toys. Expensive toys though, to be sure. :)

Still, I think that's missing Skywalker's point about the dearth of Black Widow merchandise aimed at the mass toy-buying audience (i.e. kids) as opposed to the much smaller niche group of high-end collectors.

The changes would probably be more pronounced if they bothered to make Black Widow toys.

All characters are not on equal footing / holding the same public interest. Black Widow--as presented in the films, or in the comics, is not a character capturing the interest, or offers the play value (which cannot be underestimated in why certain characters are manufactured, and to what level). In the Toy Biz Marvel Legends series, the comic version of BW only earned one figure, while characters such as Cap, Hulk or Iron Man, had (roughly) a half dozen each--from modern versions, "first appearance," to special characters based on single storylines. The "why" is not just play value, but appeal..interest.

BW is not so compelling a character with the target market of children. IOW, she's no Batman, Wonder Woman, Wolverine, Jean Grey, et al.

Scarlet Witch is the new character getting shorted on the action figure front. I've seen three box sets of Civil War toys, no Wanda in any of them. The TITAN set at Target, the 3.1/4" set(also no Ant-Man) also at Target and a Disney Store figurine/diorama set. All without Scarlet Witch but Black Widow is now much more available. The 8" Titan figure for sure stands out!

She's getting a Marvel legend figure

The point is, if you don't provide the toys in the first place for one of your major characters (certainly at least as important as Hulk) there's no way of knowing how 'unpopular' they are. It's the same mindset that pushed Kylo Ren SO hard but barely Rey at all; there's some weird assumption that boys won't play with the girl character toys and besides we shouldn't market action figures to girls anyway.

I'd tend to agree on the general point being made in these posts that the female superheroes should have proportional representation in the action figure department...but in no reality is Black Widow or Scarlet Witch as big a brand name in the eyes of the general public as the freaking Hulk!

Point taken. I was thinking in terms of her importance to the Marvel films so far, but overall that was a pretty bad example.

I think you're projecting your point of view onto the rest of the world.
