I love Cap's tombstone: "Threw a mighty shield. When his girlfriend died, Cap didn't hesitate to make out with her niece." :guffaw:

BTW, what's the deal with Bucky's tombstone, "He just wanted some plums"?

So clever. :rommie:

I'm surprised that they didn't try to play on how Civil War didn't incorporate any TV or Netflix MCU characters.

Interesting. I actually hadn't thought about, but with the way CW ended, it does make a lot of sense.

I hope that Ross recruits John Walker to be Cap. He seems like a Cap that Ross could deal with. Then, of course, Walker can be killed by a representative of Thanos, thinking that he's killed Rogers.

A replacement Cap who makes Rogers change his mind about giving up the shield is a classic comic storyline. Been done several times with varying degrees of success. My favorite is the Englehart version in the 70's. Combing that with the Crazy Commie Smasher Cap storyline Englehart did in the same decade would be great.

If they want to do a crazy Captain America story, they could always bring in Will Simpson from Jessica Jones. I couldn't find anything on the MCU Wiki about how much IGH, the group that Simpsons was involved with and gave him the drugs, was connected to the US Government, but it does strike me as a possibility for another program trying to make a new Cap. I doubt very much they would actually do that, but would be cool if they did.
In the comics, he was part of Weapon Plus, which was an attempt to recreate Captain America, so that connection has been there in the past.

Yeah, but the odds of the movie people ever directly using anything from the TV side of the "shared" universe are minuscule.

Doesn't this news story belong in the same category as, "Sun found to be very hot!"

I guess confirmation is nice, but he threw away his shield and was in plain clothes when he busted out his team. I don't think anyone didn't know this that saw the movie.

Well, to be fair, non-comics fans wouldn't be aware of the history of Steve Rogers walking away from the Cap identity, so they could think "Okay, he'll still be Captain America but not working with the government anymore." After all, we've already seen Cap on the run from the government in The Winter Soldier, and he kept the costume and identity (although he switched from the SHIELD version back to his classic look). And there are other movies where superheroes end up -- or start out -- at odds with the authorities without changing identities. Nolan's Bruce Wayne did give up being Batman for 8 years, but when he went back into action, he still did so as Batman instead of concocting a new identity. So movie fans don't really have comics fans' context for the idea that Steve could stay active without being Captain America.
