I actually really like the way that AoS has dealt with the movies for the last three years. Other than the big Hydra reveal in Season 1, the events of the movies are acknowledged but you don't need to go out and watch a movie just to finish watching the season of the television show. Now I did watch Winter Soldier before the final episodes of AoS but it wouldn't have changed the movie for me if I had watched the show first. The Hydra surprise just would have been in AoS rather than Winter Soldier.

I think it's been up and down. I agree with what you say to some extent, but there have also been moments (like the whole secret helicarrier thing) where the show went out of its way to set up some side storyline that 'tied in' to the movie, only to find out that it was all some random throwaway tie in that doesn't even affect the show at all. I mean, giving Coulson responsibility for providing the Helicarrier is great and all, but if it was going to have so little play in the show itself, then it should've been a much smaller deal, rather than that whole build up with May suspecting him of hiding things.

Yes, I agree with that point that the helicarrier should have featured more importantly in the end game of the second season.

You're not wrong, but Theta Protocol was kind of the last straw to have May give Real!SHIELD a chance, so it could have been any other major thing like a new bus type plane instead of a helicarrier from the show's perspective but making it the helicarrier made it serve two things.

You might want to consider budget limitations.
The sets are already built and you don't need to see movie level effects on the screen so I don't think that is really an issue. But the question remains why Coulson was working on this project when we never see it again. That it was used for the Sokovian evacuation was just coincidence. And where has the helicarrier been since. Was there even a mention of it this past season?

And the titular organization's budget - what we see of it - seems to be set up to accomodate that of the show. Having to maintain not only the Playground and Zephyr One standing sets, but the Helicarrier Bridge - a three-level giant among sets when fully worked up and fitted out - as well might be that budgetary bridge too far.

At least the Playground, being a converted WW2-era industrial facility can make use of the actual industrial fittings of the soundstage, with some limited digital set extension help.

Let's see what we've got on a regular basis for AoS:

Playground includes:
Director's Office
Laboratory
Locker room
Generic "Bunkhouse" living quarters
Hangar
Vault(s)
Quarantine quarters
Swing set space as needed

Zephyr One:
Mission ops/cockpit
Other compartments as needed(probable "Swing set")

Quinjet (portable within limits)

What am I missing? I'm sure there's something.

Film sets are often more complicated and expensive to build, maintain, and light. Add to this the fact that the Hellicarrier bridge set may not be located near the Agents of SHIELD sets. Add to this the cost of storage for unused sets.

Simplest explanation for why we haven't seen the Hellicarrier on Agents of SHIELD since Age of Ultron: Coulson doesn't have the manpower or funding to operate it except in the most dire of circumstances.

Follow the money. Maria Hill was XO, Maria Hill works for Stark, Stark funds the Avengers with their logo'd and legal paramilitary bases and assets. In a post second coming of Hydra world that ship belongs to The Avengers from all the ex SHIELD operatives" Captain's orders" to the last quinjet. Now Deadpool is fighting on another ship in the salvage yard.

Then why was Tony surprised the Hellicarrier appeared, if he was already paying for it?

"I appear to be funding state of the art superconductive aircraft turbines for a naval contract, Jarvis, does that seem odd?"

How often has Tony actually come anywhere near hands on leadership for his company, though? He only cares about the cool parts of his job.

No one is so stupid they don't notice they're try to superglue aircraft parts to a naval carrier schematic.

Stark Industries had nothing to do with 64. It looks a lot more likely Fury had her made largely by his backdoor dealing mercenary groups globally, that Malick etc never noticed him doing.

I thought this was the same Helicarrier from the first Avengers.

It is, Stark was brought in by Fury to provide only the specialised repulsor engines for the Insight class. He had nothing to do with 64 though.
