It's exactly the sort of alpha dog energy that Riker would display when he spun a chair around and straddled it backwards. He was owning that chair, and that space, and laying down that he did not care what you thought about it, because you weren't that important.
With Ake, it's less 'alpha dog energy' and more 'alpha cat energy', but same deal, really. She's straight up saying, 'Y'all take yourselves way more seriously than I take you... Say something real, or GTFO.'
I like it. And the rest of her quirkiness.
Even the barefoot thing comes down to 'we go barefoot at home, but not at work.' The Athena *Is* now her 'home.' She is showing off, flaunting really, that you are in HER house. *She* can walk around barefoot, or lounge around on the furniture, or lie in the floor in the middle of the concourse and look up at the ceiling, because it's *her* space, and y'all are guests in her house.
I don't think she consciously thinks of it as a 'power move,' but it totally is, and she genuinely seems to like flustering and disarming straight-laced folk like Keldric, who, by her standards, are trapped by their restrictive notions of how people *should* behave, which makes them slow to anticipate someone who isn't holding themselves to the same standards of propriety or decorum or even decency.
And on a shallow note, I love her voice. It's got the same sort of raspy smoky quality to it as Michelle Forbes or Jennifer Lien, two of the most amazing voices from earlier Treks.

A great movie.You should probably avoid Bell, Book, and Candle (1958) with Kim Novak. She plays a Greenwich Village art dealer (and witch) who -- scandalously! -- goes about barefoot all the time.
And, yes, the movie treats this as shockingly rebellious and unconventional.

While it’s true that a sample size of two is not much to base assumptions about an entire race upon, it could be funny if every Lanthanite we saw going forward was like five foot nuthin’.
Tall lanthanites are from northern lanthanite and the short ones are from Southern Lanthanite.
