Peter Capaldi recorded this for a young boy who just lost his nanny.

It really is interesting to see this side of Capaldi, especially since he's so well-known for his Malcolm Tucker personality, which he even draws upon a bit as the Doctor.

I saw this yesterday. As someone whose brother is autistic, I found this very endearing.

I've noticed from various reports that Capaldi has consistently been sensitive to people like children, autistics and others who might have trouble with the boundary between fiction and real life. The first time I encountered this myself was with a friend of a friend who became very disturbed after Picard's fate in Best of Both Worlds.

I may like Christopher Eccleston as the Doctor, but I love Capaldi as a human being. He really does come across as a great guy.

I seem to recall that Tom Baker use to do this kind of thing as well when he was the Doctor.

As did Tennant. I read a story in Popbitch, which usually slates celebrities that DT, while still the Doctor, was recording advert voiceovers at some studio one day. During his lunch break and in the canteen queue, he met a man who worked with children with severe learning disabilities. David then spent the rest of his lunch recording personalised video messages for the kids (in character as the Doctor) on the guy's mobile phone.

I wish I could find the article with an associated photo, but anyway, during location recording of "The Pyramids of Mars", Tom greated some children...in a mummy costume! For years I just assumed the Doctor supposedly disguised as a "Servicer Robot" was simply one of the other performers and Tom dubbed his lines later. (He may have done so anyway as his voice is not the least bit muffled.) But the article showed Tom sitting in the "strong-man" proportioned wrappings sans the headpiece with nearly a dozen kids flocked around him. It just seems funny Tom would have gone to the trouble of wearing the costume. I don't recall those shots presenting body language that let us know it was Tom inside. Still, that shows dedication to one's craft.

Tom also stated in a few interviews that while he was a smoker, he made the effort not to "light up" while in costume as he didn't want to present that kind of image to the children.

Sincerely,

Bill

I love when actors realise the weight they carry with such roles like when Pearlman sat through the makeup process of Hellboy again just to meet a young fan. As others have noted I like that Capaldi doesn't lay it on too thick in the video too.
