Capaldi=cancellation?

I think a bad show runner would work the same way as an unpopular Doctor, they'd be replaced fairly quickly.

Exactly. For all the fans who want Moffat's head on a pike along Traitors Row because they think he's a disaster, the more important people -- namely, the people at the BBC who sign his paycheck and allocate his budget -- think he's doing a bang-up job, otherwise they would have canned him. Everyone's replaceable, even the producer.

Of course they think he's doing a bang up job... from cold hard numbers, he is. Doctor Who is HUGE. From eyeballs watching, to merchandising, etc. Even under RTD it wasn't as big. (Though he certainly set the ground work) While I don't agree with all of his creative choices, it's hard to argue that under Moffat's watch, Doctor Who has become a much larger thing than it ever was.

For a female Doctor, my top choices would be Rachel Weisz or Amy Nuttall.

Even though I don't have nearly as many problems with Moffat as many do I kinda hope he'll step aside fairly soon, though as the saying goes, be careful what you wish for.

Yeah. I'm ambivalent about Moffat. I think he understands the show & the characters really well and he's thrown a lot of really interesting twists into the show during his run. Unlike RTD, he realizes that the Doctor doesn't work as a sincere romantic figure. (As an ironic romantic figure, sure, but not as a sincere one.)

However, Moffat's stories just got so damn convoluted in Seasons 6 & 7. And he has this annoying habit of inserting lots of unannounced gaps into the stories.

There's zero evidence right now that the next Doctor will be female nor even that Moffat will casting the next Doctor.

If the next Doctor is female, I'd be ever so tempted not to watch the show anymore, and I'm a massive DW fan so goodness knows what other people with similar views will think. Most people I know would hate a female doctor.

Huh? I'll admit, I'm not to keen on the idea of a female Doctor, not because I'm sexist (I'm not) I just don't think gender should be changed with regeneration. So, no female Doctor or Master, no male Romana or Rani. But even so, should there be a female Doctor it certainly wouldn't stop me from watching the show, and I really doubt it would cause any kind of mass exodus among fandom. Hell, the publicity around "first female Doctor Who" might draw in some extra viewers.

Don't you all worry, the BBC will never allow it. At least not as it is right now.

Then again, my distaste for the BBC might be clouding my thinking, but really, would the BBC allow for a female Doctor?

I think they would, I think they'd just want the showrunner to be very sure about the casting. What has the BBC done, specifically, btw? :)

The only female doctor I'd approve of is Joana Lumley but even then I'd still be a bit pissed off. But I think a female Doctor would be too much of a gimmick and it'd get in the way of the show, plus it'd be the closest to a protest I could do right now so I'd probably like give the first episode a chance maybe but unless it's one of the best episodes ever, I'd give up.

I remember thinking though that every female (save Lumley) is my least favourite choice for the 12th doctor, but my second least favourite choice was actually Capaldi and he got cast, so knowing my luck the next doctor will be female, and I'd probably still watch it although right now I say I wouldn't because I felt pretty strongly about Capaldi early on, and now I'm going to the cinema to see his debt episode. :P

I'd be very interested in seeing a woman in the role so long as Moffat didn't write her. I like Moffat a lot, but the dude can't write for women.

So, to be clear, they could have hired Justin Beiber or Adam Sandler and you'd be happier than if they'd signed Helen Mirren?

It was a long time ago but I remember Lynda Day in Press Gang as a very good female character.

I really don't get this Moffat can't write women thing. People act like he's Michael Bay and I just don't see it (and a lot of critisisms of Moff I do at least get, even if I don't wholly agree)

My god yes. They'd be crap but sooner them than Miren. She'd be awful IMO. As I stated, any female other than Joana Lumley is the least favourite candidate for the next doctor, and even Lumley is still low down.

<Smacks Starkers and Green Lantern with a baseball bat for Blasphemy> I think a Parker Posey-type would be awesome (Though obviously she'd need to be a Brit) as the Doctor. Helen Mirren or Joanna Lumley could be pretty great as well, but, they're both almost 70 years old, and certainly would be at least 70 by the time they got hired and started filming, could they keep up with the pace, and stay in the role for several years? Fionnula Flannigan coould be pretty amazing too, but, she does seem to be slowing down, and I'm not sure she has a "Lead Role of a Series" left in her, though, she's still doing lots of smaller role work.

*No ageism intended, they both seem to be in great shape, as far as I know, and Betty White seems to be able to keep up an amazing pace at 92, and then of course there's John McCain, Nancy Pelosi and several others both male and female in the US Congress and Senate, so, it's certainly possible to keep up a major pace at 70 and above.

You introduced the Blasphemous idea, LOL

I will say, the Doctor Who Unbound Audios, I was very excited to find one of them featured a Female version of Three (Played by Arabella Weir from the Christmas Special). Unfortunately, I hated what they did with it, they turned her into a lush, and about all I remember happening in it, is non-stop belching and barfing. I really would've liked to hear something different from that Audio Play.

Be careful what you wish for. A female Doctor? Logic would lead you to the DoctorDonna and Catherine Tate as the next Doctor.:rommie::guffaw:
