Canucks Fans Lose it - What the hell is wrong with people?

As a guy who was there in the middle of it last night, this was something that was pre-planned by degenerate loser street kids that think of themselves as anarchists but really are just a fucking disgrace and a drain on society. These are the same people who tried to start shit at the Olympics but got shut down. These are the people that bring moltov cocktails to throw in cars and the people that bring bats to break windows with. Unfortunately due to a combination of alcohol and mob mentality, they managed to suck in a few more people. This had nothing to do with sports and everything to do with a small, select group of people wanting this to happen.

Obviously, I wasn't there, so I can only speak as to what I see in the Youtube videos and pictures, but I find it hard to believe that everyone that was smashing windows and running through the stores grabbing whatever wasn't nailed down were anarchists. Yeah, I get that the anarchists started it, but it didn't take long for others to join in. And I suspect there were a lot more that joined in after it started then there were anarchists.
Read the bolded part of my post, they managed to suck some more idiots in, there's no doubt about that.

You guys don't understand the scope of this, how many people were actually downtown that night. The vast, vast majority of people didn't do a thing. Out of the massive amount of people that were there only a small percentage engage in this bullshit.

The video that makes poor little T'Baio cry for instance, sure there's idiots breaking windows but on the street right behind them thousands of people are walking through peacefully.

I have nothing but respect for those that took a stand against the idiots and tried to protect what they could. But everyone else that took even one little swing or kick at a window/car/whatever, even as just a joke picture, is little more than scum in my mind. I hope that every single one of them gets identified and has their lives raked over the coals for what they participated in last night. They should be arrested. They should be fired from whatever jobs they have. They should be publicly identified so that the entire world knows to stay away from them.
Well said, agreed 100%.

The effort underway to indentify people involved is actually pretty amazing - ordinary citizens are turning in people they recognize, the media has posted a rougue's gallery in their papers and on the net, it's really great to see. The reaction of this city to this BS has been astounding, from cleanup to seeking justice.

Check this out for instance:

It sounds like they're going to throw the book at these people too.

Wow, Vancouver is a really shitty place. Remind me never to go there, especially during a Stanely Cup final.
We don't need you.

A couple of people may have started the riots, but hundreds/thousands of people still stood by and watched as their city was being destoryed.
 You must love the internet. Makes you look all tough.

I'll never understand people that riot like that. Way to destory your own city, idiots. Who do they think is going to pay to repair all the damages? Money isn't going to magically appear out of nowhere. :rommie:

The city isn't destroyed. There's some broken windows and a few cars got burned. It's disgreaceful behavior and embarrassing for sure, but lets call it what it really is.

Well, it wasn't quite that dramatic. It was serious to be sure, and shocking, but it's not like there were ships on top of roofs or something like in Japan. I think Vancouver will be able to replace a couple cop cars and broken shop windows.

What I object to is the police and the mayor putting all the blame on these anarchists. You look at the pictures of the riot and most of what you see are bare-faced, alcohol-fueled idiots in canucks jerseys. And there aren't just a few of them. There are tons of them. No, they aren't representative of canucks fans. But they are fans. And they're also losers, hoodlums and assholes. They made no effort to disguise themselves. They were stealing from department stores. They were enabled by huge crowds who couldn't help but stand around and stare instead of clearing the area like the police asked them to.And the police are at least partly to blame for not containing the whole mess. They're making it sound like a bunch of anarchists were attacking the city and there was no way to stop them or prevent the whole thing from happening in the first place. I'm sorry, but bullshit. Take some responsibility, Mr. Police Chief. Mr. Mayor.

The 2011 riot was much worse than the Stanely Cup riot in 1994. The damages are expected to far exceed 1 million. Over 100 injured and 4 people stabbed. Nothing minor about it at all.

But not the end of the world either.

Vancouver is a wonderful city, I was there for game 6 on Monday. It's hardly a shitty city, it's got a few shitty people and some drunken idiots, but find me a place that doesn't have both. It's a disgrace that Vancouver's image is getting run through the gutter because of this.

That's an awesome page. Congratulations to everyone doing the right thing.

The unfortunate thing it does show, however, is that this wasn't the result of anarchists or hardened criminals. It was normal, everyday, drunken assholes. And that's really friggin' sad.

 You still don't get it. Unbelieveable.

VANCOUVER -- Roving bands of anarchists and troublemakers bent on havoc set fires, broke windows and whipped up booze-fuelled mobs to create the worst riot in Vancouver’s history, Mayor Gregor Robertson said Thursday.

The mayor said there was no advance warning of the strategy, which caught police and city officials off guard, and may force them to take a different approach to security plans for large public gatherings in the future.

“There had been absolutely no signs of this coming,” Robertson said Thursday afternoon. “Both during the G-20 [leaders’ summit in Toronto] and the 2010 Olympics these thugs were well known to be organizing and preparing to take action and criminal activities on the streets. There were no indications of that leading into last night,” he said.

“Definitely there are citizens responsible for inflaming the situation. But there were purposeful vandals who instigated this and very cleverly whipped many others into a frenzy by attacking cars and storefronts and moving throughout the downtown to create more hot spots.”

Myself and others saw them with our own eyes, the police saw them with theirs, the city knows about them. Everyone except for freaking T'Baio knows.

Were ordinary citizens involved? Absolutely. But they were just playing to the tune that these anarchists set up. These anarchists being the cowards who came in with their faces masked, pre-prepared moltov cocktails and baseball bats to break windows with.

Like this guy:

I don't know why you think I don't get it. I'm not saying so-called anarchists didn't whip things up, but there was a huge amount of people who were not anarchists, who were just drunken assholes, that swelled and swelled. "Playing to the tune" is no excuse for that. That's what I find sad.

Your post:

Yeah, how would we reach the conclusion that you thought these riots weren't the result of anarchists?

From your OP on you've really done a hell of a job. Well done.

The vancouverriots.com link says the first torching was not an act of an anarchist, but a drunken idiot who has turned himself in.

Here's an article from the right-leaning National Post that disputes the whole "anarchists and organized criminals" bullshit spin that the police and the mayor are spewing:

http://sports.nationalpost.com/2011/06/16/of-course-the-vancouver-rioters-were-hockey-fans/

From the article:

"Surely, none of them were hockey fans. Not the guy in the vintage Trevor Linden jersey posing next to the burning truck in front of the Post Office; not the guys in the Pavel Bure or Alex Burrows or Roberto Luongo jerseys who rampaged through Vancouver’s downtown core, smashing windows and looting and setting cars on fire. Surely they were all just dead-enders, anarchists, professional felons. Makes sense.

Except it doesn’t, and the attempt to peddle the fallacy is not going to help Vancouver move past whatever sickness ails that city."

They were not "True" fans, just so called "professional' (can you Call them that?) protesters/rioters who would have done that any how, the true fans some 15,000 helped clean the mess up Thursday.
I'd of gone down if I'd lived over there.
So please don't lump all Canuck fans in with those Assholes.

I love the fact that these idiot posted on face book etc. what they did, I'm surprised that with an IQ of -25 they can work a computer,
