CANCELLED

It's not a surprise, but I'm really sad to see it go.

It's better that they make the decision and announce it now, as it will give the writers, actors, etc., an opportunity to find jobs on other shows, pilots, and all that for next season.

The worst sin of Enterprise was it was set in such a Nerf world.

There were no consequences for actions. No chance of any of the regular crew to die. No permanent effects from anything. No dirt on their knees and no character growth.

That was fine in the 1960s, but even TOS grew up in the 1980s and dealt with long-term consequences and more realism in character development.

Enterprise? It ultimately was a show aimed at kiddies - pure pulp, with no real substance, and a patina of shallow philosophy to put a shine on it.

Is anyone really surprised it dies pretty much unmourned?

It's hardly dying unmourned, Storm.

I am mad. Enterprise is my favorite show of all time. I loved it from start to finish, from low to high. I loved it! It always gave me a sense of adventure. I do think it is UPN's fault. Their promotion of the show was non-existent. They just never pushed the show. Especially for the 3rd season when their viewership had a huge chance of making leaps and bounds. They killed Trek. And that makes me MAD!! What a shame, really. The cast was GREAT!!

Think about all the missed character interaction of Trip and Reid, stuff we will never see. How about Phlox and his weirdness, and Archer and his complex nature. I will miss it. God Bless You guys! UPN, you are the devil. God will judge you, that I promise you.

Well, I agree with what Phantom said earlier about showing TPTB that there is an active demand for sci-fi. I say buy the DVDs, go to conventions, talk Trek every chance you get.

Support other sci-fi shows and prove to TPTB that sci-fi is a viable option for broadcast tv. Berman and Braga's style may not have been the thing to set the moon on fire, but support well-written sci fi and maybe we'll get another Star Wars that'll make them come along and take Trek off of the shelf.

Mourn now. Get it out of your system. This is a cruddy way for the show to go. But get behind it, the franchise and the genre and demand more of it.

If it takes 20 years for another show I could be dead before it comes back.

I also watched TOS.

Fight for your show guys. Don't sit and be a victim about it. fight for it.

Wow.

I expected this to be carthartic, yet I really don't care.

I mean, I went from watching TNG 5 times a day to watching ENT every other week... so, I guess it's not a big surprise that I don't care.

I wonder if they'll change the ending of the series at all... and, I guess there's a big FU to the Shat, in that he'll never get another chance to reprise Kirk.

Ah well. End of an Era... I guess...

I didn't like the show, but I still feel bad. Condolences to the fans of the show. I'm sure it will have a healthy post show fan fiction life.

^^^^

EDIT: re: Crusher Disciple...

ah, but many of us do already!

i myself am a loyal fan of quite a few scifi shows, both on and off the air!

Wow this really does hurt, I didnt think I would be affected by the cancellation since we were expecting it for a little while, but this is a sad dark day.

I was just thinking that I dont have any reliable memories before Star Trek was not on TV (im 20) and it will feel like a member of the family isnt there anymore, strange it seems that i would miss something that I took for granted for a quite a while. I know Enterprise wasn't the best show but call it blind devotion, but no matter how bad it was or how many people hated it was Star Trek nontheless.

I think Star Trek will be back, hopefully stronger with some new blood, and thank you Manny Coto for really giving it one last amazing breath of life before it died.

To quote a wise man "There are always possiblities..."

:(

WTF? This is a monumental f*#k up! Just when our beloved ENT is on track they screw us!

F*#king unbelievable!

I hope & pray that UPN goes under! That network (except for airing ENT), is the shittiest ever, & caters (except for ENT fans) to the lowest common denominator-brainless-hip-hop-lovin'-'rasslin'-watchin' morons, anyway! UPN will always be garbage, ENT was the only credible thing (beside Voyager) that they had. Yech, I guess they had too many "hits" on their hands like "Kevin Hill" (vomit) & "Veronica Mars" (hurl) & "America's Top Scrawny Vomiting Bitch(Model)"(spew). Good job, UPN, DICKS!

I wonder how much the ratings fell over the past couple years because folks with nothing beter to do decided to STEAL and download the episodes instead of watching them.

Illegal Downloading = Lower ratings drops.

Hell, I can name at least 20 people on this BBS who've downloaded Enterprise episodes over the years.

Illegal downloading killed Star Trek.

Thanks everyone. :(

Well, I have to disagree with this. Some of us are outside of the US and don't get to see the show for up to a year after you people. So what does it bloody matter if my friends and I utilise technology to see episodes earlier than that because we're just that devoted as fans? We'd watch it through official channels if we could.

As for the cancellation...I'm just completely numb right now. Damn. I hate the thought of being in a world without Star Trek. Trek has been on the air continuously my entire life. I really mean it when I say I've been a Trekkie all my life, it's just always been there. And now...

Just...damn.

++

I get so tired of all this complaining about downloading Trek episodes. Frankly, conventional TV is dead. Online distribution should be common. Do you know why Trek gets downloaded so much? Because smart people watch intelligent TV, like Trek. And smart people tend to be up on things with technology. This is why great SciFi shows are being canceled left and right. All the fans download them.

I don't deny the negative effect on the ratings, but I for one am not going to wait for the TV industry to catch up to modern distribution methods. Oh, and for the record, I make sure my TV is on when Ent airs.

*sigh*

Trek is cancelled while Reality TV and mindless comedy milks ratings. Intelligent TV is slowly being washed aside; replaced by force-fed slapstick American pop culture.

Star Trek Enterprise had all the potential to be another DS9. It's been said before, but I'll say it again. TNG and DS9 didn't get good until their 4th seasons. And Ent just started getting amazing in its 4th season.

The drama surrounding TV networks is utterly absurd. It's all about greed. And popularity. And politics. And fuck it.

Maybe that's why they're giving the series the boot. Everyone who watches Trek seems to think the rest of the UPN lineup is worthless. Maybe if they put something else on the audience that tunes in would be more likely to watch their other programming as well.
