What I really don't get is people getting mad at UPN or Moonves, neither of wich had anything to do with the creative proces of a show that blew off a very large portion of it's initial audience.
To me it's obvious that the people who where in charge of the creative proces are the ones to blame, as the show improved a lot when someone else took over the creative side.

Anyone else in Moonves position would have made the same decision, and perhaps even sooner.

That makes perfect sense. We seem to be keeping our eyes on the people with their fingers on the button.

Biting the hand that feeds us? Perhaps that's going a bit too far, but if I may drag in a line from a rather mediocre James Bond film, "It's just....business"

Let's lay the blame where it properly goes here.

I second this...er, third Between the end of VOY and the beginning of ENT, B&B screwed over the fanbase, and now they're out of jobs. I hope they never work in Hollywood again, personally.

This is a very sad day. I've not missed an episode of Star Trek since the Next Generation. I personally think that this season of Enterprise has been one of the very best seasons of Star Trek in a long time - I hate that so many decided not to even give it chance. I mourn with fans of the show and of star trek

I haven't been a full-fledged basher, but it's obvious to everyone that the damage was done long before this news. I'm actually glad they announced it now, since the angst level here was growing to incredible proportions (like last year, only worse since the situation was more dire).

I was rooting for cancellation last year, and when the renewal happened, I knew the series was living on borrowed time, so I took a neutral pose toward the same issue this season. I think a lot of other bashers took the same approach in order not to offend. We on the negative side have remained quite calm. Personally, I'm upset that some bashers have used this occasion to get the knives out. That's a low blow, and quite ungentlemanly, if I may say so.

That being said, as good as this season has been, what Coto and company have done was simply wipe off the face of Old Yeller and pretended he wasn't rabid. Didn't fool Moonves and his crew, and they got the shotgun out anyway. This, folks, was a mercy killing.

If you enjoyed the show, I feel sorry for you. But those first two seasons left such a bad taste in my mouth that I couldn't be part of that group.

I remember the day UPN debuted in 1995. With shows like "Pig Sty" and "Platypus Man," Voyager was the only thing keeping the network going. Now, this is how it shows gratitude.

As someone else has noted, UPN is not a charity network. It's a business. Yes, VOY was one of the network's early stalwarts. And they rewarded it- by not cancelling the show, and by giving ENT four full years to turn itself around. If a show's not pulling the numbers its network wants, it'll get cancelled. It sucks for fans, but it's the way of the business.

The largest and longest-running science-fiction franchise in history, a huge part of human culture, takes a hit because of ratings and money.

That's why TV shows tend to take hits.

UPN has dealt itself the death card.

Possibly, but since ENT wasn't even among its top shows anymore, I don't thing things are quite as bad as that.

ok, i will. very few things upset me in life except of course serious recriminations . this qualifies as one. a million emotions enter into the picture when a man makes a decision based on his own views. now i think enterprise from the get go was filled with quality, hell im one of the few who actually enjoyed tpols foray into learning to experience humancharacteristics. however this is what happens when brannon braga and rick berman think they know better than the fans . some individuals dont listen to reason, they have to learn the hard way. well rick berman and brannon braga learned the hard way

I've never been a huge fan of the show, but I did think this season has been a lot better then the first three. I'm not gonna mourn the show, but I have lost quite a few shows that I've really loved so I do know what the show's fans are going thru', and I do sympathise.

* We got the excellent, totally great Season 4 when it almost didn't happen. Cancellation seemed imminent last year. So the best season of Trek in years is almost like a bonus.

And season 3 was terrific, too. As I've said many a time, if Star Trek has to end this spring, it's doing so in style. Plus, as was pointed out in another thread, we still have 10 episodes to go - that's nearly half the season.
It's not like the word came down after the final episode aired, which could have happened last season.

* All four seasons of ST:E wil be available on DVD this year for high-quality viewing.

Much as I feel like boycotting everything Paramount, I do have that to look forward to. ENT is the only Trek series I want to buy on DVD, even at Paramount's inflated prices. Though I'm half expecting them to cancel the release.

* The good folks at Pocket Books will hopefully create a series of Enterprise "relaunch" novels. They've done a great job with continuing the DS9 story, hopefully they will do the same with Enterprise.

According to the editors, they had trouble writing novels for ENT while it was on the air because of its story arcs and continuity (two novels had to be rewritten slightly because the series covered the same ground). As long as the NX-01 doesn't blow up or something at the end, I'm sure we'll be seeing plenty of books in the next few years.

* It seems to me to be the end of Berman & Co.'s tenure in charge of Star Trek. When the franchise returns someday, I doubt they'll still be running it. Perhaps someone with a fresh approach (one Manny Coto perhap??) will be tapped to create a new series.

I part company with you there. I have never understood the hatred towards these guys. They did a good job, and IMO I don't believe the next series will be treated any nicer by the fan base in general than this show was.

* The advanced warning means the cast/crew behind the show can dedicate their all to making the final episode the best ever, and hopefully wrap up some things like the founding of the Fed, etc. And we don't have to worry about a "Farscape" fiasco of ending the show on a cliffhanger.

There's only so much they can do, and there is always the potential of that Romulan War Trek XI film that's being talked about. I don't want the last two episodes to be nothing but a checklist. I'd rather the series end with a good, strong story. If they don't resolve BOTF, fine -- maybe that'll give ammunition to efforts to bring the show back at a later date (I mean ENT, not some Series VI I'll never watch anyway).

* Unlike when TOS was cancelled (long before my time, admittedly) there is some really good genre stuff out there to fill the void. I'm loving the new BSG, a Firefly movie is coming out, a new Dr. Who is being launched, etc. So my sci-fi fix can still be found.

Unfortunately the attitude I'm seeing from fans of some of these shows (i.e. "BSG is everything ENT isn't" being one comment) has actually soured my opinion of a lot of these shows. BSG isn't very good, IMO. I am looking forward to the return of Doctor Who, though.

I just wish I could cry or something, but I feel totally numb. I have watched Enterprise faithfully, loved it so much to break law to get it. Bashed the wrong, brought up the best...learnt a lot.

I also realized many things, among them is: Enterprise was my Star Trek show. Not my first, but the first ST I watched with interest. I won't have anything else B&B offer us, because they are dried out with their noses stuck too high. I'm not a mindless idiot they can manipulate, just throw anything infront of me and expect I will eat it only because it has a label on it. I recognize quality and their names are not bound with it. May have been, but the times are gone.

I am not a preacher of Manny either, nevertheless, that is not what I feel. I feel betrayed. This was not a way we deserved to get handled and not a way for us to go.
I am just sad and at the same time a little relieved this roller coster is finished, living in insecurity was terribly toll-taking. It's only too sad it wasn't not an happy ending. Too sad to cry now, just numb.

I'm going to be honest and say I never liked this show. But I'm not here to bash, I'm just here to give my sympathies and tell all Enterpriser's to enjoy the last episodes.

It really is a sad day for Trek. For the first time in 2 decades there won't be any new Trek on the TV and no news on any more movies.

I feel particularly bad for Manny Coto. After all he did for the show in season 4, bring back the excitement, he doesnt even get a mention in the press release. After Odyssey 5, and now Enterprise, the guy seems really unlucky with his shows. Here's hope if Trek ever comes back, it will be under Manny Coto's reign!

...and no more B&B from this day on please!

Well, even though I expected this, I'm very disheartened. I like Enterprise very much and wanted to see it go for 7 years. But Star Trek was bound to wind down someday; 5 series and 10 movies is a lot. And I'm an old Trekkie: I remember when we only had three seasons of one series.

So thanks to the creative forces behind Star Trek: Enterprise, Manny Coto in particular for all the TOS tie-ins. And, especially, thanks to the great cast: Scott Bakula, Connor Trineer, Dominic Keating, Jolene Blalock, John Billingsley, Anthony Montgomery and, my favorite, the lovely Linda Park. Also thanks to those great recurring guest stars Vaughn Armstrong, Gary Graham and the brilliant Jeffrey Combs. You guys were great; you and your show deserved better, but you should be proud of what you accomplished. I look forward to revisiting you many times on DVD; I also look forward to your future projects.

I'd also like to say thanks to those non-fans such as GrimFandango, Realist and some others who show real class by coming in here with their kind words.

And, in closing, those of you who are as advanced in years as I am may remember this:

"Bring back Star Trek."
