Canadians: The Next Doctor To Air On Space(!)

The Wormhole

Fleet Admiral
Admiral
Space has been airing commercials for The Next Doctor, saying it'll be airing on March 14.

Now, I know, most of you who care enough probably already resorted to other methods, but I figured if there were any around here who haven't gotten around to seeing it yet (like myself) they'd probably be interested. And even if you have seen it, would it hurt to watch it again?

Also, one has to wonder, since Space is going to be showing this, is there a chance they'll be showing the four 09 specials as well?

This is great news! I've already watched it on YouTube and was quite impressed, but it'll be great to see it on TV.

Fantastic news! I've always wondered why they don't play Doctor Who, especially after they started airing Torchwood.

As with most things, it's probably some time limit on broadcast rights the CBC had or some damn thing.

That said I've never watched a single episode of NuWho via broadcast television. I'm not waiting 1-2 years for the CBC to show an episode after it airs in the UK, not getting the specials, etc. etc. I also enjoy watching DW Confidential, can't get that here. And I'm definitely not paying $600  for four seasons on DVD.

Well, the CBC usually airs in the fall so it's about 6 months behind. ;)

But I do get your point. I don't like waiting either. Especially when they do things like completely skip VotD. Not the greatest special sure, but still something Canadian fans should be able to see.

And for 13 episode seasons, I'm not paying $100-120 per. I wouldn't even buy season four of Rescue Me for $50 (also 13 eps). Waited until I saw it in Costco for $25.

I'd pay $50 for a season of NuWho and that's the max.

I've tried to buy it at WalMart, Costco and Future Shop and the lowest price I could get on one season of NuWho was the MSRP price of $130 Cdn. I've never seen a higher priced season of TV in my life, and I thought the original MSRP of the TNG sets were steep.

And yes I know I could probably order it online for less but I do very little online shopping after a little.... incident I had a couple of years ago.

The lowest I've seen was $99.99 and that was in a record store. And I've never seen that high a price for a 13 episode season. It's just not worth it. And I've learned to wait.

I paid $130 per season for TOS. Now, they sell for $60. In fact, I saw the CGI versions selling for $60 too so it's going to be a long time before I pick up any season of NuWho.

Sorry to hear about the bad online luck though. I've been fortunate. Never had a problem but then I only order from Amazon.

Well good to hear I'm not the only one who has a problem with dvd pricing. I really don't want to wait 3-4 years in hopes that prices will go down. And of course down here you have Sci-Fi cutting out scenes to make room for commercials.

And they wonder why people download or pirate stuff.

Ha, I finally saw the ad on SPACE last night! It's so cool to see DW advertised on this channel, and I like the bit in the ad that says something like "Doctor Who back where it's meant to be!" :D

And I too really dislike the overly high prices of Doctor Who on DVD and that's the reason I only have Season 1 in the vanilla releases. However, I did splurge on the boxes for Seasons 2-4, which were priced a little bit better when they first came out. Still, way too much moola, but it's hard to resist. :)

If Space starts showing Doctor who near anything close to UK airing dates on a regular basis one of my prayers has been answered.

And they are a GREAT channel about preserving the integrity of films and TV, they don't edit anything as far as I can tell, the people who run the station "get" geeks.

How come the Fisher-Price country gets "The Next Doctor" before the US does?

Oh, right. SciFi is a bad joke of a channel these days.

On a somewhat related note, I notice that SPACE will be showing Torchwood: Children of Earth, although there doesn't seem to be a date set yet. They have the trailer vid up on their site. Looks good. :)

Well since the Beeb haven't scheduled it yet, so it'd be hard for them to schedule it. Especially if they're doing what BBC America are doing and showing it right after the Beeb do.

This is suprising but good news. I wonder though if this means that Space has bought the rights to Doctor Who from the CBC? I will be thrilled as well if we start getting Doctor Who and Torchwood similar time to our UK friends. I watched the Next Doctor on youtube as well and loved the hell out of it. Space did show series two of Torchwood last fall and I think aired series one as well but I'm not sure about the later.

Fantastic news. SPACE has chosen to show compassion to us suffering Canadian Who fans.

(Okay, yes, I could have watched it on Youtube, but I'm not watching anything longer than Time Crash on that thing.)

^ Yeah, SPACE did show Series One of Torchwood. I don't believe CBC did at all.

CBC certainly showed S1 of Torchwood back in autumn/winter 2007/08, so I would be surprised if Space had shown it as well - since they're competing networks and all that :)

^ Oh yes, you're right. I had things backward: CBC showed Series 1, but it was SPACE that showed Series 2, which CBC did not.
