Can you see Abrams' other works in Trek?

Ordering the Slusho Mix, and a certain Japanese corporate logo on one of the San Francisco buildings are riffs common to Cloverfield, Alias and Lost.

Beyond this, the Kelvin is a name often referenced in one form or another in Bad Robot projects, and is named for someone close to JJ.

The preference for a fast pace and a single title card without credits is something JJ did with Lost.

Of course, Michael Giacchino is well known for his work with JJ Abrams projects, such as Alias, Lost, Cloverfield and M:I:III, so his musical style is also identifiable with JJ Abrams/Bad Robot.

I'm sure there are more links ... ;)

The music was very Lost like a lot of the time, especially the Kelvin sequence music with the birth and lack of sound.

That's the only one I really picked up on, though more with the music which wasn't surprising considering the composer. It just sounded as if it could have been lifted or applied to a lot of Lost sequences - such as the end of the last season.

I thought Uhura's "Mr. Adventure" scene in Star Trek III was a stronger moment than anything the character had in the new movie.
I was just thinking about that scene and chuckling to myself a couple days ago: "...and you're going to sit in the closet!"
