California set to issue IOU's????

Let's see: A State legislature has failed to pass a budget as a new Fiscal Year approaches. Yeah, that's news....

California's budget and inability to make tough decisions that people won't like is why they are broke

Here's an idea. Stop spending money!

Here's another idea: Tax the fucking rich for a change and leave the rest of us Californians alone.

If both Washington and Hollywood were introduced to the concept of the minimum wage, there would be no money troubles.....

Idiots.

God, I hate people.

All states should really go the Iowa route and only be allowed to spend 99% of the revenue the state brings in.

This article is UNBELIVABLE! I knew California had issue's, but DAANNGGG! http://www.reuters.com/article/topNews/idUSTRE55O07Q20090625?sp=true Question? How the HELL did California end up in this mess?????:wtf: the only thing that worries me is the old saying. Were California goes, So goes the NATION!
For starters, a chunk of our revenue goes off to other states to help pay for whatever they can't pay for through their own taxes. I know during the election last year there was quite a bit of anger directed at Alaska when we all learned that not only are they one of the states that is taking in more money from the feds then they put in, but that they have no income tax and managed to give thousands of dollars back to each resident. I wouldn't care, really, but that's my money, damnit.

Second, the anti-tax crowd long ago decided a 2/3 majority was needed to raise taxes in California. Welcome to government by proposition, where everyone wants the services but doesn't want to pay for them.

As was just mentioned it is the requirement of a 2/3 majority to pass any new taxes that is the problem. Well, it wouldn't be such a problem by itself except that the legislature is pretty much split evenly between Republicans and Democrats. So nothing is ever approved because a large enough majority doesn't exist.

Both sides are obsessed with not upsetting their special interests.

I actually just read an article today titled "So Goes California Broke, So Goes the Nation." Hopefully it isn't true.

Since Arnie's been in office this has been SOP every year. However, the State Supreme Court already said IOUs are illegal (two years ago). Still, unfortunately, this is nothing new to Californians (and yes, I am one, and hold a CA government job to boot).
