Buy a Chevy Volt and get pestered to death.

The only thing that bugged me about these commercials is that the Volt owner is embarrassed to go to the bathroom.

I was actually planning to get a Nissan Leaf, but Volt might be a better choice. I drive a Cosworth converted 1984-85-87-91 Mercedes 190D. It more or less a hobby car anyway. Fast as hell. It doesn't really matter if my ass-hauler handles like a turtle. As long as its cheap to own i dont give a damn. I can get my speed fix with the Merc anyways.

Whats the retail price on these things anyway?
Don't you live in the worst scum-infested, crime-riddled neighbourhood of Gotham City, where bullets fly, shady immigrants shank you on every turn and corruption in the police force runs rampant? Isn't an armoured Hummer more appropriate for such an awful piece of Sweden?

Well, I did own a Volvo 240 that was armored. I'm pretty sure it belonged to the Russian ambassador once. But i wasn't allowed to register it in Sweden. So i couldn't drive it legally since it never got a Swedish license plate. And two of my mates drive a modified Ram 1500 and an Avalanche respectively. So we got trucks if the shit hits the fan.

By the time i get around to buy a new car (this summer), i wont be living in Sweden, but a cozy little house in northwest England. Where according to my girlfriends grandparents, the most serious crime is that someone knocks over you rubbish bin.

Cheers

^^ To continue the, um, Swedish lovefest... I can STRONGLY recommend the C30 Coupe... I got mine (finally) three months ago and can't say enough good things about it.. Good gas mileage and it's quite a mover... Easily dodges bullets in downtown Albuquerque..

Touche'

It's still an odd way to try and to advertise your product, I suspect there'd be a better way to get the information out there than to suggest you'll be constantly fielding questions about the car, which I suspect to some degree is true.
carmakers and their PR people seem to think odd is better
for instance Toyota's recent Yaris ads where they make it seem like the Yaris is the most boring vehicle ever.
"Yaris! It's a car!"
"Do you have eyes that see when they're open? Do you go places sometimes, and leave other times?"
"It has windows that go down . . . AND up. STANDARD!"
"It has cupholders . . . They're like cups, for your cups."

Lulz. Is that for real? We didn't get them here in Italy. Personally, I think that's brilliant. And that's exactly why I love my Yaris: it's basic, no fancy-smancy stuff. Reliable, comfortable, great mileage and low maintenance. She takes me places, and back again. What else could I want? As I said: brilliant!

OOO, how long have you had it??

Yeah, if there is something I learned the hard way, is that Sweden is just like Baghdad, but colder and with Vikings.

You know, mate. There was a reason my town was nicknamed Little Baghdad. And it was not because we have the best kebabs in the country, or that we accepted more Iraqi refugees that the US and Canada combined...

The Yaris is good ass-hauler. My girlfriend had one before she bought her Sentra. But for anything more than transportation from a to b, you can forget it. It has the top speed of a lawn mower and handles like an elephant with its legs chained to the ground. I drove that car more than i did my own.

And the reason its low maintenance is because there isn't anything in it that can go wrong. You might as well drive a Trabant, which btw I do. Aside from the fact that for the death of me, i cant get it past 35mph, I'm quite fond of it. How the hell my grandfather could get his past 60 will be a mystery to me until the day i die.

About 6 years. Still working flawlessly. I'm not a heavy driver (I use train or bus for my daily commute), so it just has about 60,000 km (37,000 miles) under its belt. Never had a mechanical problems. I changed the battery once. Mileage is great: average city drive is 15 km/litre (35 miles/gallon), top conditions is almost 19 km/litre (45 miles/gallon). That's pretty sweet, I'd say.

I want to go fully electric with my next car (if I can afford it!) - I'm coveting the Nissan Leaf. Haven't seen any advertising on it, but Lee Unkrich has one and tweeted about it when he first got it and it sounds like a really nice car.

I was thinking about getting one. But i finally decided on a hybrid. That way if the sht hits the fan, i can just fill it up with petrol, e85, diesel or whatever the hell it runs on. The prius was my firt choice, but this Volt looks pretty damn interesting too.

On a sidenote, i built a 2003 Prius with a mate a while back. We tuned the engine a bit, fixes up the suspention and converted the engine to e85. One damn sweet ride. I dont care about the grief we were getting because it was a hybrid. One of the best cars i ever drove. And i dont say that lightly.

I wouldn't mind an electric car, but one thing would bother me: Most electrics do not have particularly good winter traction, do they? The ones I've seen look too small for that. Do electrics have all-wheel drive?

Electric engines generate a lot of torque, even more than a diesel, so with winter tires they should be fine in snow and ice.

Awesome! I need a car and am looking for something affordable and practical. Thanks. :)
