Burnham, Sarek and Picard

balls

Commander
Red Shirt
I’m sorry if this has been asked before, but does anyone believe that Picard knows of Burnham’s existence and Discovery’s traveling to the future? I’ve often wondered what Picard retained from his mindmeld with Sarek.

Never thought of it, but yep, Picard might know things Sarek otherwise kept secret.
Sarek knew about the spore drive right? So Picard knew all along that there was this ultra powerful propulsion engine and kept silent about it even during that "warp drives are polluting the galaxy" episode?

If that were the case, then wouldn’t the Borg also know about the spore drive? Since they assimilated everything Picard knew.

Considering how sloppily the Starfleet "coverup" was handled, it's unbelievable that everyone and their targ doesn't know about the spore drive by the time of TOS.

Know about it? Why not? Able to use it is a different story. Picard knowing about it doesn't benefit anyone in any way unless he can either find a tardigrade or be willing to genetically modify a crewmember to use it. The Borg might have no such compunctions, but they might also face resistance from the spore beings themselves, kind of like the Equinox crew and their little magic being drive.

Mindmelds don't share EVERY detail of one's life.
This. Sarik's mind meld in TNG S3 "Sarek" was done to reinforce Sarek's emotional control. Picard was experiencing the emotions that Sarek was feeling during the meld. Also, Sarek was controlling the meld, and may still have been able to shield memories that he didn't want to share. That said given the emotional nature and the depth of regrets, It wouldn't be a stretch to say that Picard may have learned some things about Michael Burnham, Sarek's adopted daughter; But may still not know about the spore drive or other aspects of her fate as Sarek understood it.

If Picard did find out about Burnham and the Spore Drive via the mind meld, then he also knew the importance of never revealing the truth about either. Picard would keep the secret until the day he dies....again.

In the return of Kirk novelsd he didn't realize that Sarek had melded with Kirk (Search for Spock and another scene in a flashback in the novel) until he realized he knew stuff about Kirk that he didn't know how he knew, of course Sareks melds with Kirk weren't as intense as his meld with Picard, and a foster daughter is a very big detail for Picard to have not got at least a sense of.

According to David Goodman's Picard Autobiography, he does indeed know about Michael Burnham.

I guess they do. Which raises the next question: did Seven of Nine tell Neelix?

Neelix? She should've told the whole crew. Get those technobabble gods lookin' for shrooms.

And Picard appeared to have real trouble handling whatever was shared. Meaning he might be lucky to remember a small fraction of it, and relatively unlikely to believe half of that.

Picard didn't mention Sybok, either. Though certainly Sarak was as aware of his existence as he was of Michael's.

I'm sure Sarek did know about the spore drive but he would also respect Starfleet's decision to cover it up and erase all records of its existence. So that would most likely be left out of the meld.
