Build Your Own Publishing Schedule- 2014 Edition

Next years publishing schedule will start to be revealed to us in the coming months. Tell us what you'd like it be filled with. Remember to keep it vague, no story ideas, just series and descriptions.

I know there have already been a few books announced, but since they would have been on my wish list anyway, I'll include them in mine:

FEB: Enterprise: Rise of the Federation- Tower of Babel
MAR: Deep Space Nine: Ascendants, Book 1
APR: Deep Space Nine: Ascendants, Book 2
MAY: Voyager: Full Circle Fleet, Book 5
JUN: The Original Series- Five Year Mission, Book 249
JUL: Titan, Book 13
AUG: Tales of the Typhon Pact
SEP: Excelsior: The Fate of Sulu
OCT: Litverse Crossover, Book 1: Enterprise-E
NOV: Litverse Crossover, Book 2: Aventine
DEC: Litverse Crossover, Book 3: Deep Space Nine
JAN: The Original Series: "Ex Machina" continuity continuation

I know people want more classic TOS books, and while I'm tired of them, I've come to realize I'm ok with them as long as they have some link to the Lit-verse like DRGIII's recent novel did.

I'm sure some of my wishes will really come out, and I'm sure others most certainly won't, but that's my list. What would be your schedule for the next year?

As much Voyager and DS9 as possible, more from Christopher on Enterprise (I'm fairly sure, anyway...), the start of a totally brand new series that's completely incredible, and a year off of TOS completely.

I figured I'd just be able to crib most of my responses from last year, so I searched up the old thread. Turns out we're actually getting one of the items that I would have commissioned for 2013!

4. ENT novel set after founding of the Federation -- similar to Starfleet: Year One, but in the ENT continuity, featuring both characters from ENT and original characters.

Woohoo! So I guess I'll throw together a schedule for 2014 too, and maybe I'll get one of those as well! I'll try to make it a bit different from my 2013 one, just for variety, but there will be overlap.

1. DS9 Ascendents Duology: Book 1 by DRGIII
2. DS9 Ascendents Duology: Book 2 by DRGIII
3. Rise of the Federation: Tower of Babel by CLB (already announced IRL)
4. Novelization of The Secret of Vulcan Fury, by D.C. Fontana. (I am going to keep including this one until we get it!)
5. VOY continuation by Kirsten Beyer
6. Scotty follow-up story by David McIntee (I believe he stated on these boards that he had an idea for this.)
7. Aventine novel by David Mack
8. Titan novel by either Andy Mangels, Geoffrey Thorne or James Swallow
9. TNG post-The Fall novel by William Leisner or James Swallow
10. TOS novel by Dayton Ward, Greg Cox or Ward/Dilmore
11. DS9 post-The Fall novel by DRGIII, S.D. Perry or Una McCormack
12. SCE (full-length) novel set in post-Destiny continuity, by KRAD

I realize in reality one of these slots will probably be taken up by the Into Darkness novelization MMPB, but since I don't have to deal in reality...

For the year's TP releases, I'll pretty much copy what I had last year, except I'll drop the two that are no longer relevant:

1. Trial Run by Shatner and the Reeves-Stevens
2. New Frontier Finale, by PAD
3. Slings & Arrows Omnibus
4. Crucible Omnibus, by DRGIII (including all the extra content that was originally commissioned)

And I still think an ongoing eBook only series would be fun, now that eBooks have increased in popularity. I still like both my thoughts from last year, but the most versatile would probably be the "Tales from Known Space"-type one, which would allow authors to pitch ideas from any era, any POV, and include any characters old or new. Release four to six novellas a year, and you're good to go!

As long as Martin stops writing Trek, and the people at Pocket finally realize that 6 TOS novels in a year is overkill, I'll be fine.

Despite being extremely far behind and playing catch up right now, I'll just say a New Frontier novel, because the 6 I've read have been awesome and people here have me worried it's been abandoned.

As for the rest of the year, even mix of everything else?

I forgot about New Frontier. I would love an awesome finale book. Hopefully if we never get one of those, at least The Fall has teased a resolution to the cliffhanger from the last book.

Despite my wishlist above, if you add in keeping Beyer on Voyager, and this is pretty much my opinion.

My ideal schedule would include at least four novels based on J.J. Abrams' movies - but that's not happening any time soon.

I won't mirror the anti-Martin sentiments above. I didn't like his ENT novels, but I enjoyed and Seize the Fire and I'm currently enjoying Fallen Gods.

Try a positive spin and think of them as subsidising the stuff we like !

Seriously though, your novels are enjoyable. I'm not completely anti TOS novels, but there are just so damned many...

Greg, you just made my day.

I love that we've been having more TOS novels lately. For a good number of years, classic TOS novels were almost entirely missing. I was starving for them, and I'm really enjoying the current pattern: 6 months of TOS, then 6 months of the "modern continuity."

I don't know if TOS novels really sell better than the other series, but it wouldn't surprise me. For a lot of more casual fans, TOS is "Star Trek." The newer series have their fans (including me) but there's a lot of continuity to learn.

Beyond that, I'm hoping we get some good DS9 including the Ascendents story finally. DRGIII's recent TOS novel has gotten my hopes up.

Perhaps to make everyone happy (I am personally good seeing at least a couple of TOS books a year), Pocket could increase the number of books it publishes a year. I realize two books a month is probably too much, but having two a month in June, July, Aug, and Dec might work. I, like many others, read more in the summer and the extra one in December (before Xmas - and ya ya, I know not everyone celebrates but the fact of the matter is they do make great gifts) might be a good marketing idea.
