Bugs!

Okay, I managed to kill all of them. I found out that they kept emerging from under my nightstand, so I flipped the thing over and found a bunch of them. I'm not sure why they were there, but it seemed to stop the problem. Hopefully they don't come back.
Did you snap a few photos, so the entomologically inclined among us might have a stab at identifying the species?

You know, it didn't even cross my mind to do that. If they make a comeback tonight, I'll definitely take a picture.

I really shouldn't have clicked on this thread before I went to bed last not. Seems a lot of those bugs and spiders made it into my dreams.

Have you tried clicking on my GBOW threads before you go to sleep? They could result in much different dreams. :p

Apparently, they were carpenter ants. They live in wood. They emerge in the spring to find a mate, and then they disappear, quite literally, back into the woodwork.

^No, but they make sweet-sounding music.

Good to hear. Ants are the only bugs that I can stand and actually like:shifty:
Otherwise I really do hate bugs..and im totally scared of some of them, particulary wasps:eek::(:shifty:
I also hate the sound that bugs make.

Ants are one of the few bugs I don't like but this might be because the most dangerous animal in Tasmania is the jackjumper ant (which has claimed more lives in Tasmania than wasps, snakes, spiders and sharks combined).

I also hate those little pissants which evade my house, in great numbers, from time to time.

Holy crap, thats some scary stuff:eek::cardie: I didint know there was such dangerous ants:borg::eek:
I hope they dont like being indoors?
Is there any way to get them of ones yard:vulcan:?
I think I just admire the the average black sugar ants:shifty:

They don't tend to come indoors.

I have had to get rid of nests from my backyard because one of my sons is allergic to their venom. He would come out in a severe case of hives when he was bitten.

I got rid of the nests by pouring petrol or metho down the nest and then setting it on fire. This was usually effective but usually only a few months went by before another nest was discovered.

Most of the people who have died after being bitten by this ant have been men aged 40 or over. Here is a report that details the deaths of 4 such men in southern Tasmania.

My earliest detailed memory is on accidentally sitting down on a jackjumper nest when I was four years old. I was stung numerous time sbut luckily I wasn't allergic to the venom . However the bites were extremely are painful and I was quite traumatised.

This is why you need a few big spiders in the corners of your rooms. They will eat the bugs.

Well they say the Huntsman spider loves the australian fly:).

But l hate it when it is summer because these buggers love to come in from the heat.

But it is not nice to wake up to creepy crawlies

That's the one that likes to hide in your cars and pop out while you're doing 40 MPH saying "surprise!!! Look how big and hairy I am!", am I right?

It can't be bothered to be venomous, but by god it's Australian so it's going to be deadly somehow! :p

^^^They should have remembered the Aerogard.

We were swarmed by flies while visiting Wave Rock in Western Australia. The flies were huge.

But even worse we also ran into a locust swarm in driving in WA. We had to pull into a service station because our car was covered with dead insects (and the splattered insides). At the garage they had a pile of locusts about 20 feet high and they were still sweeping more into the pile. All these locusts had come off cars that had stopped. Out locusts were added to the pile.

This was in the days before digital cameras so I don't have a photo of it.

Okay this is the Australian blow fly.

Here they are annoying some people near a beach.

Now I know how that joke about the Australian accent got started. You know, that Aussies talk the way they do from keeping their lips close together so the flies won't fly into their mouths!

Hey that comment made me laugh.

The blow fly loves getting into the eyes and up your nose too.

But yes you have to keep your mouth shut sometimes because they will get into mouth.

I have swallowed the accasional fly and it is not a pleasent experiece.
