Buffy the Vampire Slayer/Angel - First Time Viewer

You're not wrong about Wesley at this point in time. However, by the time Angel has had its run, he'll be one of your favorite characters in the Buffy-verse.
Oh yeah, you definitely need to check out Angel after this. For those familiar, my start with the Buffyverse was Angel Season 3 or 4 and then I caught up on the previous seasons and then Buffy so you can imagine my surprise at Wesley's beginnings.

You know @tomalak301 I was going to say, if you're looking for a change of pace, you might want to check out Veronica Mars. While Angel is the other Buffyverse show, VM is the true spiritual successor. And it makes no bones about it. It's packed full of Buffy references and jokes (There's a couple in the film, even.) - Veronica even gets called "Buffy" a couple of times. Hannigan and Carpenter both play recurring characters who hate each other. And while they only share one scene together, it's hilarious. And Joss Whedon has his own cameo. (As does another popular writer/director. #snoochieboochies)

Of course, the show is completely different in tone and concept. Which is why I mention it. Surging through 12 straight seasons of occult stuff can get to be a slog. So if you start to burn out and need a change of pace, it might be a good choice. And the nice thing about VM is the seasons are very capsulated (more than Buffy even). So you can watch them one at a time and pick it up later. Plus it's short - three seasons and one film. And with the new relaunch just over two months away, timely.

The reason I mention it is because it has a lot of what you seem to like about Buffy in spades. So even if whodunits aren't your thing, I think there's still stuff you'll like - specifically, the relationship between V and her dad. It's the heart of the show and shares many of the characteristics you've noted about Buffy/Giles. And it's really not an exaggeration to say it's one of the best TV father/daughter relationships ever.

And if that's not enough to sell you, consider the lead of the show has gone on to become one of the biggest stars in the world. She has since gone back to the well twice (Once for the film and now the new series.) And has said she'll keep doing so as long as they let her.

Anyhoo... I actually meant to bring this up days ago and totally forgot. Then I just saw the trailer for the new Nancy Drew show in the CW thread and it reminded me.

Willow's colorful wardrobe is sort of like an almanac of the series. Not to mention the saccharine, fizzy of it all is the centerpiece of one the best scenes of the entire franchise.

I've heard of Veronica Mars and I do enjoy Kristen Bell in both Frozen and The Good Place. It was another show that I felt like I was too late to get in on when it was on. I'm not sure if it's on Hulu, Amazon or Netflix though, as those are the services I have.

I love Willow’s pink fuzzy outfit in Doppelgangland.

I love all Willow's outfits. They are all very 90s, and as a child of the 90s, I can't look at 90s fashion with disdain.

That's setting expectations a little high.

As for the new Watcher, that's the best the council can do? The guy's an idiot. As for the Mayor, he's invincible now. He's still not as interesting as the villains last season, but at least they are pushing his story forward some more.

Buffy is now kind of a fugitive. That's an interesting turn in the season.
Wesley has one of the best, or at least one of my favorite, character arcs of the entire Buffyverse.
So does Faith, they're actually two of my favorite characters in the franchise. When does Clem first show up? I loved Clem.
Alexis Denisof not becoming a major character actor post-Buffyverse is a fucking crime. Dude should be the younger, American David Warner at this point. Instead he has 10 episodes of How I Met Your Mother and his blink and you'll miss it role as The Other. ...under heavy latex ....with a digitally altered voice ...for like two scenes. WHY THE FUCK ISN'T ALEXIS DENISOF A THING????!!!!
He also had a recurring role on Grimm for at least a little while.

As of today, I don't think it's anywhere. However, I'm pretty sure Hulu obtained the rights to both the show and film in anticipation of the new series. And I believe they've said they would be up before the new series starts. So I'd expect to see them within the next few weeks.

I think maybe because she gets a bit of a raw deal at the end but
I think Cordelia is underrated as well for her character growth in Angel.

For everyone that says Wesley became their favorite character in the Buffy-verse, I ask what was your first impression of him in that very first episode. I mean I have 3 and a half more seasons to go of this show, plus four seasons of Angel. My opinion of him actually increased some in his second episode, even though he was still kind of in the way. One awesome thing about character development is opinions can change. I mean look at someone like John Chrichton. He was an idiot out of his touch in the first episode of Farscape, and then in PK Wars, he's pretty much dictating the universe. Knowing that a lot of people like him makes me excited to see his arc from the beginning.

I liked Wesley from the start. I felt like he was very good comic relief. In fact you could say their are two different versions of the character and both of them are interesting in different ways. It helps that he is just a good actor. Plus I always like cliche British jokes even though I know reality is different. I liked Giles for the same reason. What's great is they both start off as a cliche and over the course of time become well rounded characters but you don't get their without starting with the cliches. Joss Whedon is brilliant at character development having his characters truly grow and change over the passage of time.

Oh, I agree with you. Wesley was an idiot in his first appearance. And while he develops sufficiently in this, his one season of Buffy, that you'll probably come off liking him more than not liking him by the time it ends, but he won't be a favorite yet. The real character work for Wesley is done on Angel.

My daughter, who was a serious Buffy-phile, told me some years ago that Wesley was her favorite character in the entire Buffy-verse.

When I got to his introduction in Buffy, I thought, 'she must be crazy'. But once I finished Buffy and Angel, I understood exactly what she meant.
According to Word of God, Faith is bi and has a crush on Buffy. Going up to the window, drawing a heart with her breathe and asking Buffy to blow off school and hang out? Totally a date from Faith's perspective, despite Buffy's obliviousness.
I'm not familiar with Word of God, but I interpreted Faith's heart drawing on the window as a reference to a stake through the heart of a vampire.
Doppelgangland is Whedon's personal favorite episode.
Whedon discussed this episode on Twitter not too long ago and how he liked it.

It contains perhaps my favorite Willow line of the series when she is trying to reinforce her charade as doppel-Willow at the Bronze. She tells the vamps, "I'm a blood sucking fiend, look at my outfit". I tweeted that line in the Doppelganger thread and, FWIW, Joss gave that tweet a "like".

I was playing the Star Wars MMO Old Republic and I encountered a character with a very familiar voice, turned she's voiced by Azura Skye, who played Cassandra Newton in Season 7.

I haven't seen the episode in years, and nor anything else she's been in, so it's crazy how I recognized her voice.

Ashara. Ugh...

Skye does a lot of VO stuff. She was also in an early episode of Smallville. Don't remember seeing her in anything else, though.
