Bryan Fuller spills Disco info.

So, we would still be blaming Fuller for making Michael, Spock's adopted sister.
Agreed. That just really wasn't necessary. Only time that truly made a difference was in "Lethe".

Her and Spock in season 2 could easily be written as close friends and it would have done pretty much the same as what we saw.

Making her Spock's adopted sister only was trying to force the audience to care for her story instead of her being a character that actually stands on her own merit. Tying her so closely to literally the face of the franchise telegraphs to the audience that the producers don't really believe in her enough to carry the show and was just a cheap gimmick.

I don't know, I felt that "Lethe" greatly improved "Journey to Babel" by establishing Sarek's real reason for being bitter that Spock rejected the Vulcan Science Academy -- because Sarek shut Burnham out of her shot at joining the Academy so that Spock would get admitted instead, so when Spock refused to join the VSA, it meant that Sarek had screwed his adoptive daughter over for no reason, and he was ashamed of that.

Making her an actual part of Sarek's family allowed the show to explore that family from the inside, in greater depth than they could if she'd just been a friend. "Lethe" is just one example. Although I admit I'm ambivalent, since it bugs me that the modern Trek shows focus so heavily on revisiting Trek's past instead of telling new stories, but the DSC episodes that delved into Sarek's family were among the best of the first two seasons.

And if you bothered to read my post that you quoted and not edit it out, you would notice I already said "Lethe" was when it made a real difference. I'll quote it for you below and bold out the section where I talked about "Lethe".

If you want to disagree with me about it being the only time it truly made a difference, fine. But at least do me the courtesy of not editing out what I said to try to make your point sound better.

It's not about her and Spock. It's about her and Sarek.
And it gave us why Sarek and Spock had that rift between them. So yes, that still impacted Spock.

Ayup. As I've said before, Michael Burnham is the best thing to happen to the Spock character since the Genesis Wave.
