Bryan Fuller: Diversity is key

Probably about fifty/fifty although I'm behind on the show. I can think of three main cast guys and three women off the top of my head. It is notable for having more than one "strong female character", and not having them hate each other for no reason, or compete for the affections of the same man.

I'm sure there are some exceptions. But what annoys me so much is that Trek has always been utter shit about this. And this was the chance to finally fix it... yet I'm not seeing it.

We might still be wrong but given the cast announcement it really looks like there will be double as many male characters compared to female characters. I just don't get why it can't be even or actually the other way around just once.
Why is this always the default? :( It's like they have to go out of their way to add female characters.

When I watch a movie or a TV show I sometimes do this little game in my mind, imagining what the show would look like if all the character genders were switched. Go ahead and try that once in a while.

I do that all the time. I have a spouse who writes fan fiction.

Sounds right
Kara, Alex , Lena and Maggie
J'onn,Jimmy, Winn and Mon-el

@{ Emilia } you're correct. I guess I should have said it's a mere step in the right direction and disappointing they didn't do more.
I really hope they don't treat the women the way Sirtis was on TNG.

I was referring to character development specifically, but all the actresses had a tough time on TNG.

I'm sure there are settings in which completely equal representation would be pretty unrealistic but Star Trek isn't one of those.

Again, this isn't even about every single specific show out there but about general trends. And while Discovery is a specific show it's definitely also part of a general trend (Trek shows being shit about equal representation) that could easily have been broken this time around.
