For what it's worth, the Kevin Riley character actually returned last November (now a Federation ambassador) in Greg Cox's TOS novel Foul Deeds Will Rise (set between the events of Star Trek V and Star Trek VI, and a sequel of sorts to "The Conscience of the King"). So Bruce's influence definitely lives on.

Was I dreaming? During the pre-production/production of TMP I recall reading that a new Lt. Kevin Riley was supposed to be on the Enterprise. I even saw a photo of the actor in Starfleet uniform. Or was that from ST:Phase II???
