Bruce Hyde Has Passed Away

Re: RIP, Kevin Thomas Riley

Also: Not to be a jerk about it, but IndySolo started a thread about this here earlier than this one. Any chance we can have the mods merge this thread with that one?

What a great character, Riley was, and for all accounts, what a great man, Hyde was. I certainly wish we had more of the both of them. 74 is far too young. RIP.

Re: RIP, Kevin Thomas Riley

Now it's Kathleen's turn to take him home.

Rest in peace.
Indeed, Karzak. That post brought tears to my eyes; can you forgive me for being a sentimental sop?

Thank you for catching that; clearly my brain wasn't entirely awake this morning. My apologies. :/

1001001, can you help us, please? Many thanks!

Re: RIP, Kevin Thomas Riley

Technically speaking, Kevin Thomas Riley won't "die" for another 300+ years. The thread title name should really be changed to "Bruce Hyde", out of respect for the actor, academic, and real human being.

Riley was always my favorite B (C?) character from TOS. I wish they'd done more with him, and possibly brought him back to the movies for a cameo they way they did Rand and Kyle. But he'd moved on at that point, and settled into the rewarding career in academia. I've always felt that the transporter station jockey (Mr. Adventure) from TSFS was a type of homage to him, at least visually.

RIP, Mr. Hyde.

Actually met Mr. Hyde at a Sacramento S.T.A.R. convention back in '76 and yes he did sing a few bars of "Kathleen" , I've lost the autographed picture over the years, but the memory of meeting Lt. Riley is a good one...He actually painted houses in the S.F. Bay area and lived as a hippy nearby for quite a few years in the '70s.. An overall good guy...

requiescat in pace Bruce..you will be missed

I was not aware of his academic career. I always thought that with his kind of looks and acting ability, he would have been a good best friend supporting actor in film. I do see that he appeared in a number of other guest spots on TV.

I'm glad he found his true métier, one at which he seems to have been quite accomplished. Sorry loss. You will always be remembered fondly.

For those who still get Me-TV (I just found out today that my local affiliate channel switched to another cable network), tonight's Trek episode is "The Naked Time". Oddly enough, it looks like that was the scheduled episode anyway.

Interesting. "I'll Take You Home Again, Kathleen" has been echoing in my head for hours.

"The Naked Time" is among my top ten episodes; I've lost count of how many times I've seen it. Kudos to Hyde and the rest for making it work so perfectly.
