Brooks and Shattners acting very similar?

I've noticed (IMO) that Brooks and Shattners acting is very similar a lot of the time, over the top, over acted and at times over emtional. Has anyone else noticed this similarity?

Other than that both Brooks and Shatner are stage-trained and that each employs certain mannerisms commonly seen in stage acting (though not necessarily the same ones,) I don't think I'd say that their acting styles are all that similar.

They both have distinctive ways of talking, a possible by-product of their aforementioned stage-training, but I wouldn't say their acting is noticeably similar.

I'd agree. An example is Brooks' appearances in both DS9 and Spense For Hire. Hawk is about a different from Sisko as you can get. And Brooks speaks clearly, enunciating every word so it's clearly understandable.

Shatner however......well, TJ Hooker and James Kirk come off as the same guy alot more than they differ. I need the closed captions on if I'm gonna keep up with these characters.

I never considered either character over-acted..... but at least they're acting.

Look at the CSI shows for examples of under-acting..... or simply bad acting in some cases.

Each has a bit of a hic-up in their speaking, so as to emphasize on words and meanings they want to impact into those they're speaking to.

Sisko, while being a very friendly and generous person that just about everybody on the station likes, does have a no BS side to him and was never shy in letting others know how he feels and what's on his mind.

He uses words and how he expresses himself to intimidate during any confrontation.

As I saw it anyways.

Kirk did seem at times, a tad over dramatic, but I blame that more on the era, ie: 1960's and how things were like on tv back then.

But someone else I'd toss into that hic-up over-emphasizing acting with Sisko and Kirk?

Garak.

Just look at the root beer talk between him and Quark on YouTube and see how many times he jerks around his sentences.
