"Broken Bow" : Line-By-Line!

Archer: (clearly had it with this shit) "Come with me."

The Captain enters his ready room and she follows, he turns on her seconds before the door has even shut.

"I'm not interested in what you think about this mission. So take your Vulcan cynicism and bury it along with your repressed emotions."

T'Pol: Your reaction to this situation is a perfect example of why your species should stay in its own star system.

Archer: "I've been listening to you Vulcans tell us what not to do my entire life.

I watched my father work his ass off, while your scientists held back just enough information to keep him from succeeding.

He deserved to see that launch. You may have life spans of two hundred years... we don't."

Archer: "No, I'm not. And neither are you.

Now get the hell out there and make yourself useful."

Sometime later in Sickbay, Phlox is doing a post-mortem as Archer stands nearby listening to his CMO explain...

Phlox: "His DNA is Suliban... but his anatomy has been altered."

He pokes around inside the exposed chest cavity of the corpse with a pair of tongs.

"Look at this lung. Five bronchial lobes. You see? It should only have three.

And look at the alveoli clusters... they've been modified to process different kinds of atmosphere."

Phlox: "Ah well, ah, I yes I suppose am I. But this was no accident, no freak of nature. This man was the recipient of some very sophisticated genetic engineering.

Watch this."

(Smiling)

He takes a device, throwing some red light over a section of the dead Suliban's face. The colour stays momentarily before being absorbed into its mottled green skin.

"Subcutaneous pigment sacs. Hmmm."

Another device emitting blue light to applied to a section of clothing. There's a similar reaction.

"A bio-mimetic garment...

...and the eyes, are my favourite!"

Phlox's gloved hand opens one of the lids to expose dayglow yellow underneath.

"Compound retinas. He most likely saw things even your sensors couldn't detect."

Phlox: "Oooooohh, certainly not. The Suliban are no more evolved than humans.

It is very impressive work though.

Never seen anything quite like it."

Elsewhere down in Engineering, Trip and T'Pol are studying some readings on a flat panel display.

^ Almost got it.

Trip: "How can you be so damn sure what our sensors can do?"

T'Pol: "Vulcan children play with toys that are more sophisticated."

Tucker: You know some people say that you Vulcans do nothing but Patronize us. But if they could see you bending over backwards to help me, they'd eat their words.

Tucker: I know that he's just a simple Earthling. But did it ever occur to you that he might know what he's doing? It's no secret that Starfleet hasn't been around too long, god knows you people remind us of that every chance you get. But does that mean the man that gas been placed in charge of this mission doesn't deserve our respect? Thesn again, loyalty is an emotion, isn't it?
