Brian Brophy didn’t return?

They didn't get the original ROTJ actor to reprise the role of Bib Fortuna in TPM and though I noticed it didn't bother me. Partly because Episode I is set 36 years before Episode VI and characters age and change appearance with said aging.

Heck, they even had two different actors play Pike in just TOS.

To be fair, they could've gotten a mannequin to play him in "The Menagerie".

Saavik still bugs me 30 years on yet the Ziyal thing doesn't register.

Saavik never bothered me. But then, I never was much of a fan of the character. I'd have never noticed the multiple actors playing Ziyal if I hadn't read about it.

I understand the show is just getting started and I can’t believe they didn’t get Brophy to reprise the role. It’s not like a meaningless cameo.

The show has been mentioning Maddox repeatedly since day 1.

what a shame.

My first BIG criticism.

No offense, as this isn’t aimed specifically at you, but I wonder if most people even remembered Brian Brophy’s name before PIC, and are now whining about why he wasn’t invited back just to whine about something. I know I sure didn’t, even though I’m a huge Trekkie and definitely remembered the Maddox character. The actor, I could have cared less about.

Funny how he's become a bit of a name now and he's not even in the show.

1. It’s not the place for anyone to tell another how they should feel.

2. The Ziyal thing was jarring too. It’s not like when they needed Pine to take over for Shatner.

3. No one is going to sue Brophy for not returning, but hi this is a fan discussion board; one can lament.

4. Brophy changed careers but he’s in theater not chemistry. One could have hoped for his return.

5. This Maddox was in a different place in his life, sure, but Brophy is an actor. This is what they do.

6. Additionally, the part was relatively short and didn’t really require too too much stretching for anyone who’s been an actor.

7. In a series that returned a whole heap load of actors to Trek who haven’t been anywhere near it for decades, why wouldn’t you expect another to return, in what might have been a delightful part — brief, central, and probably lucrative? Plus adding further cache to your theater creds.

8. If Maddox wasn’t going to be another tip to canon, it might have been smoother to put a photo of the replacement in some personnel file earlier in the series or something. When you’re talking about a known entity for five episodes (right from the pilot), yes, expectations will be raised.

EDIT: Also, I posted the other day that I almost want to start a thread about how Evil French Picard needed to see proof of his bounty alive..."I need to see MA'DOX!"
