News Brent Spiner Returned for "Picard" (and you could do the CGI better in 15 minutes, we get it)

That still image going around looks very unnatural, but when he's speaking, and if you zoom in on full res, you can see every wrinkle and imperfection on his face, and the shape of his face and head is Spiner's. I personally think it's just make up. Obviously there's effects and lighting added, but whatever. Either way, Data is going to look like the actor looks now, which I think is fine.

Spiner had a peculiar movement system that subtly implied mechanical calculation. He had a crisp, machinelike, approximative approach to human mannerisms and behaviours from eye contact to speech to indicate he was programmed to simulate interpersonal interaction. His voice was an extremely pleasant exercise in perfect neutrality, neither happy nor sad but certainly curious and innocent. e having boyish and innocent adventures with Data, going fishing and playing detectives.

And in the 3 seconds we see him of in the trailer, he brilliantly recaptures Data's mannerisms after almost a 20 year hiatus from the character!

So Spiner has said at STLV that so far he hasn’t worked with anyone except Patrick Stewart. https://twitter.com/trekcore/status/1156733564186009600?s=21

That would lean more to Data being a hologram/in Picard’s head? Would also explain why Brent seemed a bit unsure when confirming that it was B4 in the drawer, as it would be unconnected with his onscreen appearances (at least for the moment).

Why would it be B4 in the drawer?

Torso looks pretty beaten up to me. Lore did get shot in the chest last time when we last saw him

Data I'd expect to have been vaporised -- he's at the centre of this explosion

Why not?

Nobody really knows what they've done, do they? You can pull all sorts of tricks when you're wearing pancake makeup and a wig even without bringing in CGI. For instance, they performed miracles with Pee Wee's last movie, basically pulling his face into a facelift with tape.

You should have read the whole article. Literally one sentence after the "tape" mention it says, "and cutting-edge visual effects from a company called Vitality Visual FX."

I cast a firm vote for "Lore." Besides the burn marks, Lore was disassembled and sent to Starfleet.
