The original was released in 1986, the same year as TVH. So we should expect STIV 2023 to have some whales and comedy in it and make a bajillion dollars or something?

I would feel like a jerk asking for a refund from the theater because the movie sucked.

You know when you go to see a film there's a chance you might not like it. It's not the theater's fault.

JJ on the other hand, he owes me $20.
Exactly.

I don't even know if cinemas in the U.K. offer refunds - I sincerely doubt it.

Besides, if a film is bad it's normally pretty well discussed before I go, and I'd seen a bunch of JJ movies before I went to Rise of Skywalker. They were all absolutely horrible to various extents. RoS especially so, but it wasn't exactly a shock. I went because I still wanted to see it.

I think there is a sunk cost fallacy in there too, not sure.

Let the record show I have never asked for a refund.

Never walked out.

I walked out of the room Life of Brian was shown in (1986, yes, and offensive) and wished I had during Clockwork Orange (great art, yes, but truly disturbing)

To each his own, but if you are walking out on Life of Brian and Clockwork Orange, your movie tastes are vastly different from mine. Those are classics, my friend.

Nothing wrong with a movie being disturbing. Or offensive.
