I'm fully expecting this to be a fish-out-of-water screwball comedy set in the eighties, with Kirk, Spock and co having to negotiate a series of hilarious social misunderstandings in order to bring a pair of whale sharks back to the 23rd century.

I enjoy the Kelvin movies a fair bit ... though I do think of them as somewhat separate from the rest of Trek. That said, I think this might be the best case scenario. Put Cumberbatch in mocap as the whales!

Absolutely zero interest in more of these Action Trek films.
Ha, you can't fool me: if there truly were "zero interest," then why on Earth would you make the effort to announce it here (and in more than one thread, no less)?

No, you're still interested enough to put on these little performances. To show everyone you care, right?

Please, yes, go do something new. I need to rewatch Beyond. Never did. Rewatch, I mean. Something explorey-weird. No bad guy. Has that ANY snowball’s chance at happening?
One of the scripts/plans for Beyond was about a natural threat, force of nature, and no enemy at all.

With Marvel and D.C doing multiverses, I wouldn't be surprised if Star Trek goes that route. The JJ verse is already an alternate reality so it wouldn't be much of a stretch for them to do something along those lines.

Either way, I'm glad that they are attempting another film with this cast. I loved Star Trek 2009, HATED STID and enjoyed Beyond. 2 out of 3 ain't bad.

Would love for this cast/these characters to just solve a mystery but ... unfortunately I'm not sure I can see that happening under JJ's watch.

You don't understand Hollywood. JJ does. "Solving a mystery" in a B-level franchise doesn't bring in the $$$, especially in a post-COVID era when the goal is to put people back in the theatre.
