Breaking Bad - I just wanted to say...

StarMan

Vice Admiral
Admiral
Well, after my Game Of Thrones binge (burned through the whole series in about two and a half weeks - loved it!), I was at a loss as to what else to occupy myself with before Uni restarted. Now, Breaking Bad had caught my eye a couple of times, but the premise seemed a bit obscure for my liking.

Well, I'm two episodes off the end of season 3 and I'm hooked. This is shaping up to be one of the finest series I've ever watched. Even better, I've still got two more seasons to go and lord knows where that's going to end up!

Just felt like getting that off my chest. :techman:

I watched this entire series in an unhealthy short span of time including running to the video store when I realized Netflix didn't have the final episodes. It's uber addictive.

Sorry for slightly hijacking this thread, but I know everyone raves about Breaking Bad. So far, I have only watched the first 4-5 episodes of season 1 and frankly I find it boring. I want to like this series, so my question is this... When does this show start getting interesting?

Emphasis mine. Yes, I'm trying to cram it in as quickly as possible because it's just plain interfering with other things that shall be termed 'priorities'.

intrinsical: all I can say is stick with it.

Netflix FINALLY has the last eight episodes up on streaming as of this past Monday. Series finale for me tonight!!!

I personally like the series (and watched it after the conclusion of last seasons Game of Thrones too). If you like the Walking Dead's range of emotional play, you'll like Breaking Bad (No zombies, but same shock value).

The first season in particular is a very different beast from what comes later -- season 1 is a dark comedy more than anything else, but it's the second season when the show starts to become the genre-redefining show it wound up being (and it's the third season when shit really gets crazy).

That being said, though, it's not a show for everyone, particularly in that almost every single character is a massive asshole. Give it until Season 2, Episode 2 ("Grilled"). If you aren't feeling the momentum by then, it might not be for you.

I don't know if I could help you. I was hooked right from the beginning.

Though, I wonder, how is a high school chem teacher deciding to make meth NOT interesting?

Seriously. This alone is what caused me to want see the series priemier (along with curiosity about how Malcolm's dad would do in a drama). Later, right before the season opener, I found out it was Vince Gilligan's show and that meant I had to watch.

Hooked from episode 1.

I wasn't that into it after the first few episodes. When it really hooked me was when the action really started picking up in season three. But I'd say, if you're not into it after 4-5 episodes, at least give it through the first few episodes of the second season. The season ending/beginning arc is more representative of what's to come. The first few episodes are mostly just dealing with the aftermath of Crazy 8 and then Walt yelling at people.

The show turned into solid gold for me in Season 3 and never took a dip in quality after that. To me, the introduction of Gus Fring is what brought this show from good to outstanding. Plus it's fascinating seeing Walt's slow transition into darkness and how it affects everybody he knows.

Being the first season is only 7 episodes, I'd say give it 10 of 13 episodes before you can really tell.

However I was hooked in season one, it was a fun dark comedy, I watched the whole series in a day.

I barely made it through the first season. The last couple episodes where enough to convince me to give the next season a try. I found the intensity just built steadily from there to the final episode.

The first two seasons were not that hot. It's only in the closing episodes of S2 that the show started firing, and from S3 on it was quite excellent.

I'm surprised to see that so many of you weren't into it in the first season. Like gblews, I was instantly hooked by what I heard before the show began and loved it right from the first episode.

Looks like the show didn't grab a lot of people at first. The ratings weren't that good in the beginning but got significantly better.
