Brands that were once popular....

I miss CompUSA and by extension Tigerdirect brick and mortar stores. It was the only place you could get a feel for mice and keyboards before purchasing.

Is Pep Boys ("Manny, Moe, & Jack") still around? There used to be one down the street about 20 years ago, then it was a Goodwill store, now it's empty.

Off the top of my head, there's still one at 35th Ave and Cactus, 32nd st and Bell, and in Mesa at Country Club and Southern . Plus one in Chandler.

My most-missed brand:

My all time favorite place to shop was Two Guys,

My local Two Guys (Dundalk, MD) was the place to go on Saturday mornings during the '70s. After watching Star Trek on color TV, it was off to the toy section - they had the largest model kit selection around. Then to the far end of the store past the grocery section to the mini bowling alley. Korvette's and Topps were also good stores for toys. :techman:

As far as food goes, I loved the Libbyland TV dinners (Sundown Supper and Pirate Picnic), and Quisp and Quake cereals.

I'm thinking that Best Buy will eventually be nothing but larger appliances and electronics, and then will slowly go the way of Radio Shack.

You're probably right. Every time I go to Best Buy, it seems they've cut back on their video game and movie selections. I can almost never find what I'm looking for anymore.

I'd give them my business, but I usually have to leave empty handed.

^I thought Best Buy was always like that. I used to think CompUsa had a better selection.

Not where I've ever lived. Best Buy used to have EVERYTHING. I used to spend disgusting amounts of money there, but now I wander around and can't find anything I'm looking for.

What was that one place that had a kind of 40's/50's motif, complete with little jukeboxes at the tables? King something? I miss those.

I swore off Best Buy completely, because I don't like the fact that they're onboard with "CurrentC" which is a competing mobile payment system to Apple Pay. I will not shop anywhere that uses CurrentC.

Just wondering; why shouldn't Apple have some competition?

^ Not my problem. I'm an Apple guy, and as far as I'm concerned, CurrentC is a stumbling block that needs to be removed. Not just on general principles, but CurrentC is insecure - it demands a bank account AND your SSN. That sound safe to you?

Besides, it's just more efficient. There's only one way to swipe a credit card, so why shouldn't there be only one way to pay with an iPhone?

Apple Pay deserves to win this war - because it is simply better.

I miss KB Toys.

I hate Bain Capital. :(

I'm surprised Barnes and Noble is hanging on.

I believe B&N is largely being propped up by having bookstores on a metric shit-ton of college campuses, and the margin on college textbooks is just ridiculous. But the company is still having issues because it spent a ludicrous amount of money on the Nook line, only have to go crawling to Samsung to get its readers made because B&N's own contractors couldn't make a device that didn't suck (and Samsung's tablets still suck).

I remember when they were trying to compete with Amazon's Kindle with Nook. Interesting to find out how that turned out.

Who swipes cards these days?, that tech was superceded in general use many years ago by Chip N PIN. And being able to pay by using a device with NFC tech has been around on Andriod and Windows phones for a couple of years now. Not saying Apple Pay doesn't have some new features just that it is using some tech that other devices have had for a couple of years.

Americans still do it seems as I'm sure a few other countries around the world do aswell.

You're confusing the procedure with the processor: I agree that it would be nice if all of the processors could agree on standard means-of-use, but putting us all on one (privately owned) processor ends up with the same situation as VISA - too much control over commerce in the hands of one company.

But then, I guess I shouldn't be surprised since your comment also implies that you think all *smartphones* should be "iPhones". :sigh: :p
