Is Pep Boys ("Manny, Moe, & Jack") still around? There used to be one down the street about 20 years ago, then it was a Goodwill store, now it's empty.
My all time favorite place to shop was Two Guys,
I'm thinking that Best Buy will eventually be nothing but larger appliances and electronics, and then will slowly go the way of Radio Shack.
I swore off Best Buy completely, because I don't like the fact that they're onboard with "CurrentC" which is a competing mobile payment system to Apple Pay. I will not shop anywhere that uses CurrentC.
I miss KB Toys.
I'm surprised Barnes and Noble is hanging on.
I believe B&N is largely being propped up by having bookstores on a metric shit-ton of college campuses, and the margin on college textbooks is just ridiculous. But the company is still having issues because it spent a ludicrous amount of money on the Nook line, only have to go crawling to Samsung to get its readers made because B&N's own contractors couldn't make a device that didn't suck (and Samsung's tablets still suck).
The restaurant I miss is Ground Round. They had awesome BBQ ribs and cole slaw.
^ Not my problem. I'm an Apple guy, and as far as I'm concerned, CurrentC is a stumbling block that needs to be removed. Not just on general principles, but CurrentC is insecure - it demands a bank account AND your SSN. That sound safe to you?
Besides, it's just more efficient. There's only one way to swipe a credit card, so why shouldn't there be only one way to pay with an iPhone?
Apple Pay deserves to win this war - because it is simply better.

You're confusing the procedure with the processor: I agree that it would be nice if all of the processors could agree on standard means-of-use, but putting us all on one (privately owned) processor ends up with the same situation as VISA - too much control over commerce in the hands of one company.Besides, it's just more efficient.
