Brandon Routh leaving Superman?

I don't care if they reboot it, I don't care who plays Superman; all I care about is that Superman fucking PUNCHES SOMETHING*.

*Preferably a building sized robot.

Ugh they better not do an origin story again. I'm sick to death of comic book origin stories. Everybody knows who Superman is.

Or better yet, just forget the last movie and reboot with a new cast.

And a new script. One that is not filled with inappropriately placed quotes of Donner's film, and a lead actor who plays Superman, not does a Christopher Reeve impression.

No one wants a sequel to Returns.

Go to Big Lots, they have 10 copies of Superman Returns for $3, no one wants them. Go to any Walmart in the USA they will have no less than 50 copies of it for $5, no one wants it.

The movie is a failure in the only sense that matters, there will never be a sequel to it because no one wants to own the movie!

Returns was complete crap. I was just bitching up a storm my my sisters after the movie. She was highly amused with my agitation. LOL

Complete reboot is needed....

1. If you really think Superman was a dead beat dad, then you have absolutely no idea was a dead beat dad is.

2. If you think Superman was stalkerish, then I suggest you watch the pilot of Lois and Clark and you'll see a real stalker Superman

On topic: This news doesn't surprise me. As much as I would like to see a sequel, I think the movie stands well by itself.

I was the same way. The person I went with enjoyed it and turned to me afterwards. "What did you think?" they asked.

"I thought it was awful." And then I just didn't stop giving it a bashing. I had high hopes for that film and it failed to deliver on almost every count. Let's get away from that film as fast as possible and reboot this franchise.

Mhmm... I think I'm gonna buy the Blu-Ray now.

I enjoyed Superman Returns but was rather underwhelmed. At least it wasn't 120 minutes of Smallville. Imagine how awful that would be on the big screen.

I think rebooting is a dumb idea.

Superman Returns was not a failure.
The studio not rushing out a sequel proves otherwise.
Did it underperform? Yes. Guess what? So did Batman Begins.
Batman Begins was smart, fun and actually enjoyable. S:R was dumb, stupid and yawn inducing.
Yet The Dark Knight was an even bigger success.
For Heath's death, yes.
I think with Singer's proven track record at making a bigger, better and more successful sequel (X2), I think it is very dumb on WB's part to sit idly by.
No, WB saw how lackluster the response to Singer's Superman was. Nobody cared for a repeated viewing for something that should have been Superman's comeback to the movies. It was an uninspired and unimaginative movie which the majority moviegoers shunned.

I'm sure the studio is anxious to start a new Superman movie, they're just waiting for enough time to pass so people don't link their new reboot with SR.

I hope he does not leave. I thought he played a great Superman. Also he seems to meet the current 'unknown youth criteria' casting agents are going for these days, a la Star Trek.

I realize there has been a move from Hollywood to 'Dark Knight' the superhero franchises, but Superman is not like Batman in that regard. Only thing Supes need is a worthy villain that has an evil plan that hopefully will not include real estate this time.

Green Lantern[/I] in 2011, the next Batman in 2012 and then a full reboot with a new cast for Superman in 2013 is the way to go at this point. The ship has sailed for a sequel to SR.

And, of course, 2013 is Superman's 75th Anniversary.

I own it. I loved Superman Returns. I thought Routh was fantastic and so was Spacey. I don't see a need for a reboot at all, but if they did, I'd want to see an older Superman, like the old Earth 2. They could have him fight an old Batman!

Heh, I'm clearly in the minority, I enjoyed the movie and liked Routh as Supes. I didn't go ape, but I did think hey that was pretty good.

God I hope they reboot the franchise. I'm sure that's probably what they're aiming for, since it has been 3 years since the first film and no plans exist for any kind of sequel to SR.

Honestly, I almost fell asleep during this movie, and that NEVER happens to me. It was the most boring superhero movie I can remember viewing.

I can't think of anything redeemable about the film, except that I felt like Kevin Spacey is the best guy to play Luthor right now.

“Superman Returns” was nothing more and nothing less than a love-letter to Richard Donner. The film was a rehashing of his outdated “Superman,” and Singer’s film is essentially a really expensive fan film that killed the cinematic Superman for yet an entire generation. I mean, 20 years worth of anticipation, a $204 million dollar budget, legions of fans, and they still screwed it up?! Wow! Kate Bosworth was bland, boring, and horrendous as Lois. That kid, forgot his name, as Jimmy was pathetic. Langella as Perry White was a lifeless imitation of a revered character, and the son, the stupid son was such a bland, and scary looking creature. I mean, he never blinked, acted too much like an idiot, even for a five-year-old, and was totally unlikable. This movie tarnished Superman for a generation.

And the thing about it that really angers me is that Singer, the self-proclaimed “Superman Fan” did more harm to Superman than goon. In Summer 2005, he went to Comic-Con boasting about how he “knew” the Superman legend and was going to make a great Superman film. What we got was a shoddy product. Like a car or door-to-door salesman, Singer acted like a con-artist, pitching his product to us, gaining our trust, and then dumping a worthless piece of garbage in our laps. We were duped by this con-artist. He didn’t care for Superman, and chose to ignore any and all post-crisis comic books. The only exposure this con-artist had to Superman was to Donner’s outdated, and somewhat campy film.

And let’s not forget the millions of plot-holes in “Superman Returns.” I mean, how the hell could Superman lift a damn kryptonite island, let alone an island in the first place albeit with a kryptonite shard still stuck in him?! Well, I’ve had it with this film and here we are three years later and this film is dead and buried and has not lasted the test of time. It had already faded away. Good.

I agree 100%. :)
