By stressing Superman's alienation and isolation Singer actually pushed Superman more into the realm of being godlike - albeit a highly fallible "god" - and further distanced from humanity than any previous screen incarnation. It's an interesting take on the character, and an artistically valid one, but it's just not what most moviegoers want to see in a Superman film in my opinion.
How about Ryan Reynolds for Superman? And Flash. And Hawkman. And Ant-Man. And Aquaman. And Sub-Mariner.
He can play both leads in Superman vs. Deadpool.
Yeah, and I'm also in favour of casting older. Before Routh was cast, it had been reported that James Caviesel wanted the role, and I think he would have been great for the part. I don't care that he already played Jesus. I don't think people would be unable to buy him as Superman, just because of that. I think he had the right look to play Superman and the acting chops as well.
