Bought an HD-TV: Waste of Money

Riddle me this; why does my new HD-TV have audio running a half-second behind the normal TV? When I have the sound on both TVs at the same time there's this horrible echo because they're out of sync. BTW I'm gonna buy the cheapo Blu Ray player at Walmart tomorrow, and my HDMI cables (the cheapo ones on Amazon mentioned upthread) should arrive in the mail on Monday! :D

The signal is just getting through a little farther behind the other one. This has happened everywhere I've lived where two TVs were on at the same time.

My old TV ran in perfect sync with the little TV in my bedroom. I have both on all the time when moving between the rooms, so this is pretty annoying to have happening.

all my TVs running a digital signal (usually run through a HD converter box) are a second or so behind. Anything plugged right into the wall is ahead. Only annoying when I watch the Red Sox on tv in one room, then go in the bedroom for a bit (to fold clothes or something) and watch on that tv, but can still hear the big screen...

Delays due to digital can be a pain for some people :)

In Australia a lot of people would watch the Cricket on tv and listen to the radio coverage on the ABC because the commentary was so much better.

Once digital tv came in, it introduce a slight lag on the tv so that radio and tv where out of synch. Result was people had to listen to the arseholes ch9 calls commentators.

Don't buy that Magnavox Shit-box BD player.. It can't even do BD-live.. So that means it can't use internet for updates.. Spend a few more bucks and get a real player.. Something with an ethernet jack in the back.

Holy shit! I finally got my component cables on my X-Box 360 to work! I am now playing Mass Effect 2 in HD! It's pretty damn cool. I've had the TV for five days now and this is the first time it finally worked properly :p

Glad you got everything worked out. Enjoy it.

I was being facetious. Technology really isn't that hard. You just need to know what you're doing with it.

Well I guess it would explain why many people can't program their VCRs :)

Then again I could never master my mum's answering machine or call waiting :)

anyone know why my lcd tv can pick up the high def local channels but my mom's lcd set in another room can't? (We have no frills basic/expanded cable with no digital/HD channels, btw)

Whats the age diff? Cuz it sounds like one has a QAM tuner and one doesn't. Almost all the new Sammys have the QAM other then the most basic of basic units.

hmm Im not sure, I bought mine last year, my mom's (the one not picking up the signal) was a gift given to her a few years before that. I know hers wasnt very expensive.

It works perfectly well. I have not required one update and I've got several brand new release Blu-ray titles. He shouldn't be wasting money on a pretty package and features he probably won't use.

Do you rent movies at all?

If so, you can rent them on bluray too. Then you can see the difference yourself. What new movies I'm buying, I'm now picking up on bluray simply because of the difference I saw.
