"Bond 23" Announced!

So if Peter Morgan is involved, in addition to Sheen playing a role, will this have to be based on a true story? The Deal, The Queen, Frost/ Nixon, The Damned United, the forthcoming The Special Relationship - all based on reality.

While I am assuming you are being facetious, Michael Sheen does in fact not have a role. I just wanted to clarify that. Well, he might at some point, but just because he's been in a couple Morgan productions doesn't quite mean he's going to have a role here. :p

Anyway, this would indeed mark Peter Morgan's first non-historical scriptwriting assignment, I do believe. Part of the reason why I find his hiring fascinating.

I was indeed being facetious. How well you know me! Nice to see you back here, btw - thought you'd been quiet for a while.

The big question is who Michael Sheen will play.

He's who Bond thinks is the main bad guy, but it will turn out Sheen is actually Frank Langella's henchman.

I know your gimmick is taking two barely related franchises / movies, combining elements from them, and then making a joke ... but it's painfully un-funny. Just letting you know.

Casino Royale is the only Bond movie I own. It's the only one I really like. After Quantum of Solace I might not bother seeing the next one at the cinema. But I guess I'll wait to judge until I see the trailers, and/or reviews.

I really don't get the hate for Quantum of Solace, ok it's a bit rough but if the writer's strike hadn't kicked in when it did I suspect it would have ended up slightly more polished. In many ways I like it more than Casino Royale. Daniel Craig is awesome as Bond so hopefully Bond 23 will be great, I do hope they add a few more Bond staples in, not angling for an invisible car but Moneypenny would be nice...

I loved Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace was passably good and I like where they're going with the Quantum syndicate, but Bond 23 sounds more promising.

I'm split on CR and QofS. Fine action and realism, but no Bondisms. Die Another DAy is so crappy, but the theme was playing over the action. How much better would all the chases on QofS been had the theme been playing, or if a dang joke was made by someone, anyone!

I wish they could make the next one as another proper remake of Thunderball. Q, Moneypenny please! I could take CR as a one off, but it just got drained to drivel in QofS. Still, I have faith!

Casino Royale killed the franchise for me, did not like it
Well the franchise is more or less in Frozen Carbonite IMO.
Saw Casino and was underwhelmed by the Bourne-ification of Bond. The ultimate ignoring of what a Bond movie cinematically is.

When Daniel Craig isn't Bond and the series turns back to what it should be the Carbonite will thaw. Solace proved the Craig version took a dip, another dip and its recast and reevaluate time for the Broccolis.

I'm not the biggest Bond fan and I was skeptical when Craig was selected but I loved Casino Royale. It had the right mix of pulse pounding action, intrigue, and romance. Whereas the action in Quantum of Solace was more mindless, there wasn't much of a plot (one that made sense anyway), and Bond seemed so cold and remote (albeit with reason I suppose) that it didn't work for me. He was killing people without interrogating them first and then just lucking up too much as he went along.

His seduction techniques with Agent Fields (who didn't even mention her first name for him to make an entendre or something about) was lame, he didn't bed Camille, and the villains mostly sucked, except for Medrano. CR was a nice intro, but QoS was a weak follow-up. That being said, I would like them to finish out this trilogy. It seemed like Bond went through an awful lot in Quantum to just discard Vesper's memory like he did. That was such an unsatisfying ending.

Have Moneypenny appear and die in the first 15 minutes. Introduce Q only to have him turn out to be a villain.

Brian Blessed replaces Judi Dench as M (she'll be allowed to retire, only to be killed off in the 4th movie).

Crossover with GI JOE (the true heir to the Bond legacy) and reveal Quantum is just another COBRA branch.

Or do none of those things. ;)

Bond and GI Joe have different studios, so you couldn't do a crossover. But Bond could go through a Stargate. Or hunt down Species. Or visit Fargo. :p

While I thought Quantum of Solace was underwhelming compared to the greatness that is Casino Royale, I can't understand how anyone thinks that they are killing the franchise. They took Bond, which in Die Another Day had almost became self parody, and turned it back into a respectable film franchise. They revitalized the franchise, were commercial successes and I hope they make many more.

Gritty is much better bad.

Agreed, Die Another Day was the Batman & Robin of the Bond franchise and if they carried on like that then am pretty sure the franchise would of been on life support by now. Casino Royale was everything a Bond movie could be and am sure Ian Fleming would of loved it. Quantum of Solace is better with repeat viewings but compared to CR its a nice solid Bond adventure without any of the extra kick that CR had.

Qos biggest problem was it failed to explain everything good enough to the audience and only after a repeat viewing does everything with Solace and Vesper's husband fall into place. I look forward to the 3rd movie and hopefully maybe QoS can be linked to Dr No. and his group Spectre is it ?
