Boldy ranting where other rants have gone before

It seems like we sometimes bring our expectataions of how Voyager "should be" and then fault the show for not living up to our wishes. Why come to it with an agenda at all? Why not enjoy it, just as it is? It doesn't have to be like TNG, DS9, or even something my Aunt Martha said. When I first heard about the series, I groaned. It sounded to me like the Federation meets "Lost In Space". Now that I'm watching it, I think GR would be smiling.

Which is all very well and good, but after the highs of DSN and TNG, for me VOY fell somewhat flat. Sure it had it's moments but I found them far too few. As for Charatcers the only one I found remotly interesting was the Doctor.

Sure VOY had a great premise that many myself included think it failed to live up to. For those that enjoyed it the way it was that's great, but perhaps if some of the things that annoy the people who think Voyager failed to live up to its premise where included perhaps for you it would have turned from a great show in to a truly excellent show.
I understand your point, I do however I think anybody that has watched the Discovery Channel or nature survival shows knows that the longer you survive in the wild, the better at it you become. Voyager stuck to it's premise during seasons 1 into part of 3. After 3rd season they knew how to get by in the DQ, so issues of energy & supplies stop being an issue.

Voyager and it's crew learned to adapt.

One thing I did observe whilst watching VOY was the closer they got to home, the greater the level of technology of the aliens they encountered. If I recall correctly the Federation used certain techs that not even the Klingons, Romulans etc.. used.

I suppose it is within the realms of possibility that other species in the DQ had devopled the tech but it wasn't apparrarent from what was shown.

My only concern about your viewpoint is that I am fairly certain they still mentioned energy and supply problems for the entire seven seasons. Though I do concede that you do adapt.

right which was illustrated in a number of ways and directly by a couple of episodes:

Fair Trade -- where Neelix feels he's outlived his usefulness, something they relied upon a good bit, by being summoned to the bridge to comment about this or that alien race.

Think Tank -- where the alien group goes out of its way to capture "the collective memories of the borg" rolled up in Seven of Nine, who has essentially taken over Neelix's place mentioned earlier.

In which Neelix's post also became bumped up to "ambassidor". So instead of talking about the aliens, he was meeting and greeting them to aquire supplies and/or safe passage for Voyager.

Excellent points Gardin .

..as well as yours MacLeod.
