As anyone who's seen a Yankees game knows, Bob Sheppard has been the home announcer for over 50 years now. Lately he has been rather ill and might miss the 2008 season. Linky
That would be a real shame, considering he IS the voice of Yankee Stadium, which is in its last year. His monotonous style can never be emulated, as he does it so perfectly
I will definitely miss him if he is unable to continue as the announcer. And I'm not even anywhere near a "real" diehard Yankees fan (although I do love the team and I go to New York several times a year). I can only imagine what they must be feeling right now.
I hoped that Bob would at least get to announce a few games in the new ballpark. I hope he still can. He's almost a hundred years old (he was born in 1910), so whatever happens, we know he has had a long and full life.
