Bob Orci and the lost Shatner scene

I just re-read Orci and Kurtzman's tale. Thank God they didn't do that. First, the were WRONG about a few facts:
1. Spock did not go to Romulus as an ambassador, as a matter of fact, The Federation thought initially he was a traitor and sent Picard and Data to get him.
2. For whatever reason he went, this was in TNG time where Captain Kirk was either dead from old age, or as we later learn (and as everyone in TNG time would know) disappeared on the Enterprise-B rescuing El-Aulerans (?). That's what Spock would also know as the demise of Kirk.

So he wouldn't have been around to make this message after Spock went to Romulus either way.

Yup, valid points!

It would've been neat if Shatner simply would've agreed to end the movie with the, "Space, the final frontier...," monologue once more (instead of Nimoy doing it). Or, if his voice started it, and Pine's finished it. But as it is, the story stands on it's own without the Shatner's Kirk scene.

Yes I would of liked that...even with Shatner starting and Pine finishing...that is a great idea why the hell didn't they consult with you???? I think that would of satisfied Shatner or orig. Kirk fans without going over the top or being too distracting etc...

I wouldn't trade badass Eric Bana in badass boots and a badass coat for anything.

Are we talking about the same Eric Bana/Nero here? He was everything but badass ... I thought he was pretty cartoonish, in a silly way.

Is it sooooooo wrong for our villian to have a little sensitivity or a little cry fest once in awhile? I mean he has feelings too...

Re: Shatner's Scene could have worked!

I think it would have been cool durring the mind meld for Kirk to see his future self. That's the only way I could see it working in this movie.

Pike as Kirk: "Jeez. When did they stop making Skim milk?"

Re: Shatner's Scene could have worked!

To all you sceptics!!!

Tell me why it wouldn't have worked huh?

Give me a true and genuine reason why it wouldn't have worked

(and don't give any of that he's too fat and old crap)

Shatner wouldn't have done a cameo, for one, and that's certainly what this birthday message would have been.

Joe, worker

Shatner starting...Pine finishing.

Hmmm.

You know, that would have sounded pretty damn awesome!

The idea of Kirk recording a message to his younger self makes no sense. Spock being sucked into the blackhole was something unexpected so why would he have a recorded message for his younger self?!?

Probably why Abrams (wisely) chose not to include it or even offer it to Shatner.

If someone was paying attention, they'd know that the writers never suggested that Kirk would be recording a message to himself, but to Spock on the latter's birthday.

Re: Shatner's Scene could have worked!

JJ should have shot that for the extended DVD variant. He would have sold an extra few million for sure. I'm surprised he didn't offer it to Shatner, unless he just felt it was too small a part for him to accept.

Oh well, off to multiverse where this is in the film, and Nero is female.

Are you kidding? I wouldn't trade badass Eric Bana in badass boots and a badass coat for anything.

Well, I guess JJ spent quite some time trying to find a way to fit Shatner in w/out it looking stupid and contrived, but came to the realisation that when you try too hard, it's probably best to leave it alone. He said something to that effect a while ago.

Shatner's Kirk died. That he definitely did say. And he's right. As usual. :p

Oh I totally agree. Shatner killed Kirk off, and we all know he asked to do it. I was not ragging on Eric Bana's performance at all. I was a bit apprehensive, as I didn't care for him in the Hulk, but he kicked-ass as Trek villain.

Re: Shatner Scene Revealed

There wouldn't have been a single person in the audience that would've said "Who's that????" when it showed Shatner.

As for the scene, I think it would have been cool. It would have been a nice little goodbye scene for Shatner's Kirk, and it would have put him in the movie, which would have been great.

But we've already said good-bye to Shatner twice now . . . in UNDISCOVERED COUNTRY and GENERATIONS.

Only Cher gets that many farewell tours. . . .

But his "echo" is still there in Generations, remember Guinan? She was still in the Nexus AND on the Enterprise at the same time.

I'd just as soon have The Shat beam on to the bridge with Gaila slung over his shoulder, point a finger at Pine and scream, "Namby Pamby! She got off the Hood, AND SHE'S MINE!" Then he disappears!

Pine stands up out of the center chair and screams: "SHHHHHAAAAATTTTTTTT!!!!!!!!!!!"

Shatner would've deserved more than that. Such a small cameo would be disrespectful, imo. Better to leave him out of it entirely that to bother him with that

Same thing for Spock in TUC and "Unification Pt. 2".

Sheesh.

Re: Shatner's Scene could have worked!

I would have had Kirk come back (in some time travel device) to retrieve Spock Prime. Since this is an alternate timeline, in this timeline, he did not die. It's this timelines Kirk. He came to bring him back to TNG time (as he did come out of the Nexus and saved Viridian III with Picard but survived, maybe because Spock Prime told Kirk (Pine) to prepare for falling bridges).
That'd be a great idea... For a Shatnerverse novel.

I'd have him come back, as an older kirk in this timeline. Making an Alternate Reality actually made a better chance of seeing Shatner in a movie in this timeline, since they can cast him as an older Kirk. He can go out of the Nexus, in the nuVerse.
