Ooh I took some photos of the Moon........ These are not new ones I did them with my previous camera.

Working on my first widefield shot worth a damn of the entire Orion Constellation.
This is just a preliminary shot.
But super hyped about this one.
    Hope it turns out alright.

Nice one. I think all it needs is a bit of color correction. I did something similar years ago.

And a few more since I'm looking at my album anyway:

Cool. Your Orion image has a bit of color abberation, too. Let me guess, achromatic refractor, maybe with some kind of filter?

Edit: never mind, FoV is too large for a telescope.
More like an achromatic photolens then?

Believe it or not, straight from the camera, which was sitting on a tripod. Canon 7D, and it was shortly after we received it years ago. Can't remember which lens, as it might have been one we had borrowed from a friend, but it was a wide-angle lens. Always seems like it's the hardest thing to fix, doesn't it? I'd tried fixing it in the past in post via photoshop, but only so much you can do.

Speaking of fixing in photoshop… I‘m done with my stacking and post processing.

    Tada:

Yeah. Those ha emissions help a lot to bring forth structure and details. Don‘t have that.
Those filters are way above my current budget

No kidding. We recently had a speaker give a talk to our local club, talking about solar viewing and equipment, and the hydrogen-alpha equipment was easily over $1000.

I thought an Hα filter was in the range of $100 rather than $1K but I don't really know how much you have to pay to get a quality one. I found the following astrophotography video of the Orion region - combining an image intensifier and Hα filter - interesting.

It really depends on quality, size and frame of the filter.
You can get one that fits your telescope or photo lens, or goes inside your DSLR.

Oh yeah, of course what you want to do with one entirely depends too. The high-end ones made for solar viewing come in the form of eyepiece attachments and need a bit of extra technology to get the sensitivity and imagery you need.

I keep fanaticising about taking up astrophotography as it doesn't have to be as expensive as people often imagine. However, it's probably just as well the seeing and the weather where I live is so lousy as to discourage me from taking even the first step. Otherwise, I'd probably disappear down the rabbit hole of always wanting to upgrade to better kit.

Don't worry, the typical rule is that whenever anybody gets new equipment, the weather ends up lousy for the next several weeks later ;)

Nice. You should stack it, would look spectacular, I‘m sure.
I should have another go at the moon.

got this nice planetary cam that should be capable of high detail super closeups…
