Board Astronomy (contains big images)

One of mine from last night, taken in a very dark spot. Processed a bit to remove noise and haze and added a bit of blue temperature.

Despite being into astronomy, I only found out about NEOWISE on Tuesday, when the local weather forecast mentioned it!

But got a nice view of it last night from the garden, first clear night all week. Nice view in my Carl Zeiss Jena 10x50s! I've got a few really close street lights, but could see a nice tail about half the length of the tail in that image above. :)

Not all that many, I'm afraid. This was one of the better exposures before the clouds rolled in. And stacking is something I never really got a handle on.

I understand our heliosphere looks unlike a comet, and more a croissant...

A widefield shot aimed at the zenith at the time.
It shows the Milky Way region around Cygnus.
The purple tint is not natural, of course, but I kind of like it as an artistic element.

Dumbbell Nebula - M27.
A planetary nebula, which means, its a remnant made of gas and dust of a dying star blown out into space.
A hot white dwarf remains at the center producing the radiation that lights up the nebula.

There was a haze in the air the other day and was lucky enough to see this sun and have my camera with me. I could look at it. It's the first time I experienced this. But anyway, I got numerous shots like this. The only editing I did was cropping and spot fixing (damn dust).

I'm calling it Tatooine.

safe_image.jpeg

Neutron star collisions build gold by briefly smashing protons and neutrons together into atomic nuclei, then spewing those newly-bound heavy nuclei across space. Regular supernovas can't explain the universe's gold because stars massive enough to fuse gold before they die -- which are rare -- become black holes when they explode, said Chiaki Kobayashi, an astrophysicist at the University of Hertfordshire in the United Kingdom and lead author of the new study. And, in a regular supernova, that gold gets sucked into the black hole.
