I don't think so...I'm not familiar with either the movie or the Steinbeck novel but a search of "tenuous shoes" on Google brought up 3 hits and one was actually a misspellt "tennis".

I haven't seen the movie, but I very much like the novel. "Old Tennis Shoes" was what the "boys" in the story called Old Tennessee, a brand of whiskey they favored when they could scratch together enough coin to afford it.

"Old Tenuous Shoes" sounds like it could be something in a bottle (tequila, including worm*?) featuring in a yet-to-be designed bit of starship Photoshoppery. ¿Tenue Zapatos Viejos?

Nope. Once in a while I'll add a literary or other such twist to a gag or one-liner but this time I was just keying off the word "tenuous" in the post prior to mine. :)

DOCTOR: "Oh! Why d'you have to stop it at the best bit? I was rather enjoying that. "

VALEYARD: "I'm sure you were."

DOCTOR: "Clever, eh? That trick with the sombrero. "

VALEYARD: (sarcastically.) "Most ingenious, my dear Doctor."

Is that a real Doctor Who quote? If so, it's awesome!

In honor of Senor Montalban, here a photo of him wearing a sombrero and holding a rooster. You will be missed.

I think the new Enterprise should have Montalban playing the starboard nacelle. It'd be a nice contrast with Shatner's port nacelle.

^ Makes too much sense for this thread. Bad idea. Instead, let's make Montalban the computer voice. It would sound impressive...and Latin!

Beyond that, you can't post Ricardo Montalban showing off his cock, can you?

You gotta give kudos to a man who could use his outstretched arm to hold his cock over his sombrero-clad head.

What?!
