Personally, I blame Sam for calling this down upon us:

    :p

I'll toss my hat in the ring as a young 'un who watched TOS pretty religiously as a kid. I remember forcing myself to stay awake for the midnight airings on the local FOX station (and usually managing to fall asleep halfway through the episode--I still remember konking out in the middle of "What Are Little Girls Made Of?" and waking up at 2 am annoyed that I didn't see how it all turned out...) So it's certainly true that there's plenty of love for TOS here, if any of the TOS-purists out there are concerned.

I think he relaxed. He accepted the PEZ, remember? ;)

That's very good to know!! :techman:

Believe it or not, I am staying open-minded about this new film (none of us know that much about it) - I just get a little touchy when I perceive people are mocking TOS.

Yeah, I absolutely jinxed us. What was I thinking?

I'll be mocking it soon enough. But probably not in this thread.

Not to worry -- Cogley's an equal-opportunity mockerist; everybody is fair game.

Except for that little idol of Shatner he keeps in his office, where he burns legal documents as a sacred offering.

    Exactly. Especially myself.

And I daresay that I'm probably even a bigger TOS fan than TOS Purist, so no worries. :techman:

I love TOS, indeed all things Star Trek - and I reserve the right to take the piss out of my favourite show(s). We are fans, so all things Trek are fair game.

If fact, this is the only place in the world I can crack a Star Trek gag with people who will "get the joke".

Well, most of them anyway...

Heh, just noticed another, somewhat stealthier, Sombreroprise.

The Sombrero section is designed to detach en caso de emergencia.

That's good to know...although I sincerely doubt the second part of that message.

Also...me likies teh Ent-D Sombreroprise. 'Bout time someone poked fun at that ugly, stunted-bird looking thing!

Of course, other people are allowed to like it, I'm not invalidating anyone's love for that ship or that show...but it's totally unfair that they got to see it UNCHANGED (except for two extra bridge stations) on the big screen, while I STILL have to suffer through horrendous redesigns of the TOS Enterprise. Wasn't the original design good enough for the big screen? I think so.

It also renders the "Your bridge shouldn't be sticking out at the top of your ship," argument moot. I'd like to see a torpedo punch through that.
